I wouldn't know, as I don't know how much it is. Comon, spill the beans.

Was planning to do this. I have a 96 Chim 500. First can you let me know where were you planing to do it. Can I have their contact details. Also can you let us know how much you were talking about?

What are they charging for them now? The numbers they were talking about before the launch made it seem extremely cost effective.

£4,500 plus Gordons cut...or £5,287.50...so its too rich for my blood. Might have gone ahead with it at (say) £3,000 (inc VAT).

The price qouted is per a conversation with I had with Dom at TVR Power 2 weeks ago.

Which conversion option was that price for? They had two options last time I looked - it might have changed now.

Well, even at that price...its a HELL of a lot of power for that kind of money, and completely driveable!

The car came with us to Nuburgring/Spa last month (with Marc Hockin...top challenge driver ) and I was fortunate enough to get a session driving in at Spa. Beautifully prepared/developed. A real beaut.

That 4 litre Chim will EAT 5 litre cars! not only that, but it will also embarass most sorted 5 litre cars! I kid you not! the only problem with that Chim (in any respects) is that it has too much power for the std drivetrain. It needs to loose about 40bhp, in which case it will still be brutally fast!

to give you an idea, here's some footage of us on the trip www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXzPvPklQa0 and there's more info/images in TVR news at www.tvrmonster.com if you'd like to see more ie here www.tvrmonster.co.uk/news2.html
I'm currently working on a full article on the drive for this months newsletter.

A STONKING CAR! clap

andy

BTW, I have already ordered my 5L blower. They're currently being developed. We should be able to acheive and comfortable 500bhp. Any more and my drivetrain won't hold it! (BTW my car already has 400bhp)

Drive the car, the numbers won't seem so big then

Still quite a bit less that their 4 to 5ltr conversion which is about 6.6k

As far as I can tell its the standard one, ie supercharging an existing engine (non intercooled).

The other levels I saw before on the website were custom engine builds, intercooled with lowered compression etc, even going as far as changing the diff ratio to up the gearing so cars realise greater top speed potential ! Would guess the price to be about double the amount here though - at least!

yeah same figures i was given that is s shed load of cash (i really must be tight, as above i was expecting around the 3k mark. for my ford 302 a similar sort of conversion comes in at about $2500 okay so about £2200 when u get it back to the UK.....

gawd know what the next level up is going to cost!

woz going to build a 4.6L blower Rv8 with Dennis Priddle (blower guru).

came out at about £10k + install. (Charge cooler extra! but that was a fresh custom built engine nuts )

£3k for a blower upgrade??? rolleyes c'mon!

development
testing
doner gear
blowers (a couple atleast)
CAD (months and months)
hardware (pipes/belts/pulleys)
chipping (all the above)
strip it down several times to check it
more miles (the blower chim has done around 15k now)

adds up, then put some profit on it...

how many is he going to sell? 20-30, 100, 1000? you price it. expensive business, and still a bargain I reckon. I easy spent £6k getting my twin plenum engine to 310bhp. You seriously need to have a look at it/drive it and you'll see where the money is.

andy

not surte how much the blowers are themselves. £1500? Peter greenv8s would have more of an idea...of all of it really.

The "drive in, drive out" conversion with no engine/drivetrain/WHY work is £5300. For 400bhp. A Chim 450 demonstrator will be available in November. Above 400 bhp there's more work and more money involved.

Sounds like a bargain to me, given that someone in my office has just paid about £60K for an Audi RS4.

You're tight.

This has been under development for ages, try costing the investment from TVR Power's perspective. I don't think they just picked up someone parts catalog, bought A B and C and boted them together. They have worked probably hundreds, possibly thousands of hours, not to mention the costs of parts that didn't work out.

It's amazing they can punt them at that price TBH.

LOL at that price probably 4 so to break even prehaps they should charger £32k just to make sure

seriously though i appriecate the development costs etc and maybe its a good price, my point was whos going to go for it at that sort of money? i certainly can't afford it let alone the 4.5/5.0 conversion

so.... whos going to order one?

I'm giving it serious thought, have been in conversation with the developers and intend to have a go in the '450 demonstrator. Much depends on the bonus, though ...

Ask yourself, how much would it cost to get a conventional 400bhp? With the potential for 500bhp?

Well the devil is in the detail as they say, and I've had no direct dealing with them myself, but all I can say is that supercharger conversion looked very well designed and engineered, and every indication is that it is a good job well done. It's a lot of money but these things don't come cheap. Unless you are prepared to do the engineering yourself you could expect to spend around £100 per bhp, and if it comes in under that count yourself lucky. This supercharger conversion sounds as if it is well under that and I'd say it was a good buy, assuming the rest of the work was up to the same standard.

yes Its not been specifically mentioned on here before, but its not just TVR Power tinkering, there are external automotive consultants involved in the development.
