New Alternator Bracket
Discussion
While I've been replacing my head gaskets I decided to upgrade the alternator bracket on my engine. I was not to happy with the original one that was from my AS engine as it flexed too much and the alignment was not perfect. I know some people have had problems with them braking. I noticed on a pic posted by LuckyP that his has a support bracket added. This new bracket does away with the need for that.
The pic below shows the new bracket fitted to my engine. The rear part of the bracket is made of stainless steel to stop the flex, while the front part is billet aluminium to save weight. The bracket does not flex at all and the alignment is perfect. The bracket is made by Summit Racing and was bought direct from them. It's part no. SME-2005 and cost $75.95. I would love to fit a 'multi rib' belt but I cannot due to my supercharger drive, which is a twelve rib drive.

Hi Clive
It would have been nice to do that but I have no room for the alternator to be run at the top position. Induction tubes and swirl pot are in the way. Not much room in front of these mid-mounted chevy engines.

Talking about alternators, which way round do the two wires go (does it matter) ?
I've got SVA on Thursday, still doing the fiddly bits, stressed or what!!!!

My alt has three connections.
Threaded terminal post has heavy brown.
Then two spade terminals.
The spade closest to the post is the Brown/yellow
The other is a smaller brown wire but is actually common to the brown on the post.

The Brown/Yellow should go to your ignition warning light. The small Brown is for excitation and the large Brown on the terminal post is the main feed back to the battery.

P.S. How's the engine running Graham? I got mine running again this afternoon.

Thanks Steve/Dave.
It started OK, running a 'bit' rich at the moment. Only had one complaint from the neighbours whilst bedding in the cam, said they couldn't breath 'cos all the fumes going into the house, mind you have to admit that I was feeling a bit , had the rear clip open at the time and all the fumes were being directed back into the cockpit.
Simon (Tuxman) did a good job of detailing the carbs settings, so I know what size jets are in etc.....so I have good base settings to work from.
So when do you expect to have yours on the road?
