Okay,

after my 'coolant' experience over the weekend, my header tank is pretty much gone from min to max with water..

Now, should I be adding some sort of coolant to this mixture? Do I need to get it from Porsche, or can i pick something up from halfrauds?

You need the proper G12 stuff - Porsche or VW is the best place to get it IMHO.

huh.

Can i just drop into Porsche and buy a bottle? or is it slightly more complicated (expensive) than that?

Yep - it's about £6/litre.

If you've only topped up with a bit of water then you're probably OK...they have about 20-odd litres all told so you've not diluted it that much.

VW was closer for me but they were 20p/litre more expensive so I HAD to drive 20 miles to OPC

If I was you I would drain the lot and start again, it is important ot get the right ratio between water and the coolant (antifreeze). I know it has been a mild winter but if we have a cold snap and there is not enough antifreeze in the system it will freeze up and could cause a crack in the head somewhere. Conversley too much antifreeze is not helpfull for the engine either. Its only a 5 min job and well worth it as I'm sure you know how much a new engine is!

Busy painting but....

Total coolant capacity = X

Difference between low and empty =Y

Amount added blah blah blah.

Do the maths, you'll only have altered the actual percentage by a fraction.

I ran a car on 100% coolant just to see what it would do

The bugger would never get properly up to temp
