I was lucky enough to enjoy a weekend in a new 997 GT3, and one of my unresolved findings was the effect of the PASM button.

Anyone managed to notice any difference between 'normal' and 'sport' settings, and if so in what circumstances? I could detect a small amount of smoothing of the ride over broken surfaces (but it was still a very stiff ride), but other than that no much else. I'm not complaining - I like the setup and in fact kept it in 'sport' all the time. Just wondering if a switch is really necessary.

Perhaps I don't have a sufficiently sensitive backside or the correct calibration of driving head. silly

I notice a lot of difference between the two settings to be honest. The bump and rebound rates are a lot different and much firmer in Sport setting.

On undulating surfaces the Sport setting is quite uncomfortable - I tend to drive around in Normal most of the time.

Sport will only be used on the track for me - Unless of course I move to an area where they have 21st Century roads and not victorian ones.

scratchchin Do you have the bucket seats? I wonder if the lazyboy recliners in mine were insulating me from the worst effects?

Lazyboy recliners in mine as well.

Do you live on the Silverstone F1 Circuit per-chance?

Seriously, there is a vast difference in Normal and Sport mode when it comes to comfort in around-town driving.

It is really noticeable on poor surfaces

Very noticable difference...

especially on poor road surfaces.

Standard is more than firm enough for road use.

Stiff comes into its own on track.

Sorry to be pedantic but the 'sport' button only effects power delivery, exhaust (lovely!) and TC. Ok,Ok, I know what you meant and agree with above comment in that I can feel quite a difference and use 'normal' for day to day stuff. Mines Clubsport spec. with the buckets btw. Tried a car without cage yesterday and was suprised at how much 'softer' or 'looser' the car felt at rear with fewer road shocks being transmitted to the car - I use the terms soft and loose relatively speaking obviously!

Clearly my senses have been battered into submission and insensitivity by prolonged exposure to my Mk1. hehe

Jeremy did you actually drive the 997 much at the weekend or were you just cruising around your hood at 20mph so everyone could see the car?

What do you mean 20mph? They wouldn't have got much of a glimpse of me if it had been that fast. Besides, I'd have run the man with the red flag over. hehe

In case you HAD to drive with a banging hangover and the noise was just too much
ps and of course you were just under the drink/drive limit
