Many of you will be aware that I have been struggling to provide photos of some of the problem areas that formed part of recent postings. Paul 968 helped by posting for me some photos of the bad helicoiling recently - but I wanted to show a few more and have tried to set up an msn site to host them. Try as I might I cannot get it to upload the photos so I have put them in a Word document and did manage to upload that.

The site is accessed through http://groups.msn.com/Porschedissaste

Yes I know the spelling is wrong - that was to avoid general searches finding it.

I hope you find it interesting and then in future I can post pictures there if they refer to issues arising on this forum (assuming it actually works - which is by no means certain!)

Baz, have you tried this ?

Go to www.tinypic.com (No need to register/login or any such nonsense)

Click the "Browse" button, this will allow you to view the photos in your picture file.

When you've found the picture you wish to upload highlight it by left clicking on it.

Then press "Open" followed by the "Upload Image" button.

(depending on file size the upload may take between 10 seconds and 2 minutes !)

When it has uploaded the three choices of URL appear in boxes. Cut and paste from the middle box titled "IMG Link: for forums and bulletin boards" into this reply box (ie the one you normally type your text into) and submit as normal.

I use Photobucket for posting pictures on the net

www.photobucket.com

It's a free service and easy to use.

Baz this will make life much easier for you - forget hosting them.

Instead go here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/forumd

It's the 911 engine rebuilding forum at PelicanParts

When you post in the forum you can upload pics straight from pc to the site. Auto resize etc etc. Just click 'add photo' just below the message window
You have to register but thats no biggie
So then just do a post over there, and give us the link here.

Easy (ahem)

Thanks chaps - I tried a few suggestions. tinypic got as far as the folder with the pictures in that I wanted to select but then would not open the folder to select individual pictures.

Photobucket DID allow mw to open the photos and save them in a photobucket account (where they now sit looking at me and wondering what to do next) but then I couldn't work out how to post them into a current "reply" to pistonheads - how do I do it please CharlesW?

I do struggle with computers - sorry - I guess most people who use internet forums are naturally comfortable with computers - or they would not use them - I am not - I think because the logic is not tangible like engine parts - but for some of you to just say - its easy - can I say in my defence (that I am not a complete arse) I find it easy to strip and rebuild a 996 engine, or a gearbox, or jig bore a housing to 0.005 mm - want to have a go?

Baz, if you've got that far with Tinypic, try again !
Once you've pressed the "browse" button it should take you automatically to your "pictures" folder ?
Is it doing this ?
If yes, you should be able to choose either individual pictures or folders within the main pictures folder.
Double left click to open a folder with multiple images in, then single left click the image you want to upload.
Once highlighted, click the "open" button. This has no obvious effect but will take you back to Tinypic where you press the "upload image" button.
Then follow my instructions from my previous post.

Keep trying, it took me ages to work out how to do it !

Good luck !

Baz .. Your computer numptiness gives me hope!! ..

I still haven't found out how to post my pictures (besides the one on my file , which took an afternoon to do , and now I can't seem to repeat the process!!)

I get e-mails from 'webshots' about my account , but I haven't been able to find it since I opened the account a few months ago!

...YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!

... Maybe I'm better off not being able to do such things .. I'd only be subjecting you lot to daily doses of my sensual Savannah interior !!

Thanks for the support - but look what I don't understand is - I am in say the pistonheads "reply" box and about to type in words - I cannot find any symbol that allows me to go off and input a photo (or whatever) and then allow me to go back and carry on typing.

Please talk me through someone!

It's difficult to upload pictures on the piston heads website forums.
Well impossible really because the pictures have to be already 'on the web'. Hence the need to mess about with tinypic etc which is in my book a pain in the arse.

The pelican parts forum is different. There is a click to upload photo button there. Straight from your pc to the site. Give it a go

Baz,

When you look at your photo album on Photobucket, you will see 3 lines below each thumbnail. The bottom line is the one you need to copy and paste into your post on Pistonheads. It's referred to as IMG Code. It looks like this in plain text

Obviously Your_Name refers to your Photobucket user name and nameofpicture refers to the title of the picture. I've put a space between the http and the : so it appears in my reply as text and doesn't try to find a non-existent picture
