Hi,

Unless there was another identical vehicle, which I very much doubt, then it appears to be down under !

Just had a closer look at a picture and the other thread and it does appear to be an identical car !

The original reg of this one is G692MEO - how many silver SX's with a 400 shell and green leather did they build !

Or is the one down under an imposter, it has no SX badges, is it a 400 that someone has bolted a supercharger on to try and increase it's value with the SX's being so rare. Any way to tell from the chassis no SA9DH40P3KB019405.

Well, cableguy, did you only run up 700km's in it?

I'd be very curious to know the breakdown value of the car. ie: how much is due to location, supercharger, milage, age, collectability.
Even if you convert the AUD money back to GBP it seems awfully expensive. You can get a decent supercharger and add it to a normal 400SE for far less than the difference in typical selling prices.

Something else I'm curious about is the 700 miles? Who in their right mind would take such a fine car and park it?

700km's is only 434 miles! To answer your 2nd question, I bought mine at 6,500 miles 2 years ago. The owner 2 before me did 50 miles a year for 10 years! Perhaps the owner is too scared of it to drive it.

That's just a waste of money (and car) in my mind. I'll only have a 5 or 6 month driving season here where I live but I'd hope to at least get it out
every other weekend for a hundred miles of thrills.

IIRC my car had 40k miles + when I sold it. These cars are for driving not garaging.

Agree about the parking - but is the 700k genuine ?

I gather there were only three original 4 litre supercharged cars made so rarity must add value. If you put the GBP value at 8k that equates to AUD20k but add on the costs to import a car and get it registered and as a guide you can multiply UK value by 4 so AUD32k would be reasonable. Add on AUD5k for the fact that it's been done and there you have the asking price. If the mileage is genuine maybe it's UK value is higher - not sure it would sell for higher than that, maybe to a collector rather than an enthusiast it might.

As an example my 450SE cost me the UK equivalent of GBP5k in shipping, quarantine, taxes and duties, registration etc which, if added to the purchase price, made it an expensive proposition considering I probably couldn't give it away here in Oz.

Not that I regret it for a moment - to me it was like my left hand, you don't have to have one to survive but life is much more pleasant with it and you can't really put a financial value on it.

If someone thinks that way about an original 400SX maybe it's not a bad price - after all a GBP10k Chimp here costs AUD50k plus.

That’s a 400sx
Used to belong to a guy on here (chappers). Ran up in convoy to the wedge fest wth him one year ( there’s a great action shot of it on here somewhere of it splashing through the torrential rain )
Gorgeous looking car inside and out
He sold it shortly after ,about 4 years ago now
It turned up in a thread from John Halstead (engineer1949) a couple of years ago - can’t remember if he owned it or was just working on it - think it had camshaft wear issues
It’s a stunning car in the flesh very rare and if the mechanicals are good then represents good value if measured against a Seac of similar condition which could be 7-10 k more expensive
I’m off to bed now - I’ll try and post links to relevant threads tomorrow
