I have a fairly old laptop which has Office 2003, I've lost the original licence leaflet (it _is_ a legitimate paid for version) and now that I've bought a new laptop it would be handy to uninstall from the old one & install on the new one (still have the CDs).

Does anyone know if this is possible (& how do I do it) or do I need to fork out £300 odd on a new licence?

many thanks

You can do it perfectly legitimately, so long as you don't use it on the old PC as well. You will probably not be able to activate online, but will have to call MS. They will ask the reason and you will be able to state that you have upgraded to a new laptop. They will ask whether you have removed OFfice from the old machine. You will reply in the affirmative and they will give you a long sequence of numbers and letters to activate Office on the new mahcine. I did exactly this a couple of months ago.

Doh! Forgot about the phone-up option. Thanks!
Planning to stick Open Office on the old one - so no duplicate use.

cheers!

IIRC the licence agreement for Office 2003 states that you can install it on one primary device and one portable device. So, in other words, two PC's.

Microsoft Office 2003 Licence Agreement said:
1.1 Installation and use. You may:
(a) install and use a copy of the Software on one personal computer or other device ; and
(b) install an additional copy of the Software on a second, portable device for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the Software.

I know it says about "the exclusive use of the primary user", but how the hell are they going to enforce that?

who me ?

There are programs on line that will get you your key if you've forgotten it( found one for my OS ,so would think they exist for other progs) -possibly MS won't like it , but if its your own paid for copy what's their grief ??
