After a bit of help - when I download the photos from my D70 onto the computer, I then have to go through each one to edit it to reduce its size from over 1mb so I can upload to Photobox. The question is - is there any way of the images resizing themselves when they are down loading onto the PC

Not sure if the Nikon has anything that clever in it. But I use ACD PRO software which has a number of batch tools including resizing. I'd recommend it to anyone.

First question is; why do you have to resize them to upload it to Photobox? If they are for printing, it's best to keep the best quality.

Second question is; are you resizing the resolutions or just the file size (while retaining the resolution)?

What I can say is it's best to retain the best quality when downloading them to the PC and keep them as a digital negative, then resize and save the copy. Keep the original untouched.

The reason for re-sizing (file size) is that when uploading 50 or so photos into Photobox at over 1 meg each it can take for ever, so I usually re-size to say 450kb and always have thought having loads of photos of 1meg on my PC would slow it down

I just thought everyone did it!!!

yea but no but yea but...

If you want them to print above 6x4 - you need as much quality as poss. All mine on photobox are about 6 mb+ (these I don't resize and keep jpg compression to absolute minimum)

Which means I can print out to A2

If you are on dialup - just let it go through the night. (That's what I did to get mine up).

CG is right

But if you do want to resize, Photoshop can do batch processing and is set up to do this (drill down through the file menu) or if you're on XP you can download a Microsoft Power tool so you can multiselect and right click to covert the images

Powertool does not give particularly good resized image, a bit pixelly - but it is convenient and I use it unless quality matters.
Photoshop resize gives excellent results but I've never got the batch conversion sussed (I'm still on PS 6).
Alternatively, use Irfanview - it's very good, flexible and free. If anything it's too flexible and a bit bewildering at first; well worth the trouble though.

As an aside - I don't use the photosharing websites, I use my own web space.
JAlbum produces excellent galleries, does all the resizing, page structure, etc, for you, and it's free. Here's a gallery I produced earlier

I think I will not re-size in the future then and just upload them at the original size, I guess will get an external hard-drive to store them all on.

Mr GC! bow
I've long admired your piccies - a real inspiration.

Not only that, but my Mum lived in Camusterrach for five years, Inveralligin for a year and Annat for a year - so I know your neck of the woods moderately well.
She's also lived in Achmore near Plockton and spent a long time in Achnacloich on the Sleat Penninsula. Many visits and many happy memories.
She's living in the Forth valley now

Do you know Robert from Toscaig? Last time I met him he had a rather nice MG he was entering into European classic rallies.
