I have a widescreen monitor with a native resolution of 1680x1050. I want to play a game that only has 4:3 ration options but the graphics card stretches the game to fill the screen which makes it look odd. How can I get the card to stretch it in proportion so that I get black bars on the sides? The graphics card is an nvidia 7900GT. I've checked at all the nvidia options and the monitor options but can't see what I need to change.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

Have you tried turning off monitor scaling if available? It's in the nVidia Control Panel under "nView Display Settings" --> "Device Settings" --> "Device Adjustments". Just click on the radio button for centered display or fixed-aspect-ratio scaling.

Thanks for that. I found the setting and had a go but the screen was illegible in everything but the default. I'm guessing it's because I'm running two monitors but I'll have another go later.

I had similar problems with my 7900 GS card, nVidia and using two widescreen monitors. One monitor was fine and the 2nd one had lines on it. The solution was to change the setup to use 'Use my display's built-in Scaling' via the nVidia control panel.

Not really sure that is going to help you as you don't want it to scale ...

1400 is the native non-widescreen width for a 1050 height screen.
