The reason I ask is the daughter of one of the women in the office at work is trying to shift her old herald convertible.
It has no tax or MOT but I believe it is a runner.
If anyone is interested I'll find out more about it.

Not any more. It used to be a staple of the industry... Marlin, JC Midge and several other cars were Herald/Spitfire based, due to the convenience of the separate chassis, but it's too old and rare to stack up as a donor any more.

You could probably get hold of a set of plans for the Midge, still, though.

BWE Locust is the only thing that springs to mind. Although that may now be Escort based by now...

ETA: Sorry saw Triumph; missed Herald. I think it was Spitfire based.

Burlingtons are based on Heralds and I believe they're still being built today. I think there's a Yahoo group for Burlington owners in fact - they'd probably kill for a reasonable chassis if it came with a current registration document!

It's probably worth stressing, though, that Burlingtons and Midges are plans-built cars rather than kit cars. The main body tubs are made from plywood.

They're far from a simple bolt-together job that you can knock out in a couple of weekends!

Duttons use quite a few Triumph steering and suspension components. Try the owners club website. It's surprising how many of these cars are still around, and they have an enthusiastic following.

It would be a sin to canibalise a Herald convertable ,, they must be as rare as hens teeth now smile

Would be more beneficial and probably wiser financially to restore the Herald, as it will appreciate. Whereas a herald powered kit probably wouldn't.

Agree with annodomini restore it

I had a herald based spartan which I acquired part built but looking in the trade papers etc a restored herald will be worth alot more than a herald kit

I understand that the spartan owners club have resurrected the mould for it if you are interested but i think its only the fibregalss bits not the cast ally bits

I think some of you have the wrong end of the stick.
I don't have any interest in the car, I was just trying to help her sell it.
I have a TVR which is about as close as you can get to a kit car without actually having one I reckon.

If anyone's interested here's a few pics of the actual car.

I personally cut up 4 with friends in the 80s, so I can't be accused of not trying to get rid of them.

Joke, obviously, I quite like Heralds. We did cut them up, but actually they were beyond help.......except perhaps for the Convertible we built the Burlington Arrow from...
