Hey
Anyone had a problem getting a new mobile phone to work with BMW Bluetooth?
Ive a 03/05 X5 and on the BMW web site the choice of mobiles that link via Bluetooth and work - partially or fully - is limited and all old models. Currently i use a Motorola V3 which BMW say works partially yet ive found works fully !
None of the new phones out seem to be on the list ...............so...does anyone have an X5 with Bluetooth who has succesfully got their mobile to work - and have a relatively new phone (im on Orange btw). Apparently a lot will connect with Bluetooth but you dont get access to phone number memory , etc so you have reduced capability, which kinda defeats the object! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Lee
The long and short of it is that phones on a series 60 operating system (Symbian) don't work very well with BM's BT system. Phones with Series 40 are fine and will exchange contacts and all that good stuff. Check the phone manufacturers website for info on the operating system.

I have used both a Sony Ericsson K700 and K800i with an 03 330. I dont think either are listed as compatible.

I had a V3 which worked fully (address books etc) without problems. Now have a Sony Ericsson W880i which again works fully but occasionally drops the bluetooth connection to the car, this only ever happens at the start of the first call made... after that its fine!! BMW can't tell me why!

I had a 03/53 X5 and that worked with an Orange E600. I don't think it is listed as compatible.

Forget what the BMW website tells you it's well out of date:

you might need to register to see this topic - but there is a long list of phones that have been tried and tested.

I have a dec 04 535d which has very limited compatibility. Althouh not an X5 it is the same era and the bluetooth kit may be similar. I've tried a Nokia 6310i (great but ancient), an Eriksson T610 (reliable but slow connection and a crap phone), a V3 (unreliable and a really crap phone). The good news is that the brand new Nokia 6300 works perfectly and is really quick. It's also a great phone. I was amazed. No cradle available, but that's a minor inconvenience. Hope this helps.

A lot depends on several factors, the phone, the phones software version and the ULF version, this is why BMW call it a compatability matrix.

I have the 3rd gen ULF with SES (VR) and have paired my nokia 6230i (v3.86) and the missus nokia 6230 (v5.50) as well an an old motrola v500 to my ULF and all connect and both nokias give full access, phone sync, address book, SMS transfer etc, the v500 does not have SMS transfer but everything else.

So its a bit hit an mis, try the phone before you buy (either the phone or car), as it could be a combanation or any of the factors above that may depend on how the phone connects.

Best rule of thumb, try and make sure the phone has the latest version of the software on it, get the latest genaration of ULF that you can (12 is the latest).

Also delete any SMS messages from the phone (or store no more than 6), as this can cause pairing and connection problems. (repeated connect-disconnect).
