ANPR INTERCEPT VEHICLE
Discussion
Yesterday afternoon was off to Costco for beer and wine.
I followed a Mitsubishi EVO in jam sandwich colours with "ANPR INTERCEPT VEHICLE" on the back. In the rear window I could see a camera which obviously checks the car behind.
Now, this is the kind of policing which is to be backed 1000% - keeping uninsured and untaxed cars off the road.
So I pulled alongside and gave him a cheery
Officer seemed most taken aback...!! He gave me a cheesy grin and floored it.
Anyway, if you're on here, good on you. About time we kept uninsured and untaxed scum off the roads.

Oh hang on, I didn't put a lot of thought into that question did I (oops).
Oh yeah now I remember why I asked....do they have powers to stop, then, and use lights etc? Was it in full police livery as well as it's other markings too?

As an intercept vehicle it would be fully authorised to persue and stop vehicles within that force's guidelines. There are plenty of tasty marked and unmarked traffic cars about with similar capabilities.Oh yeah now I remember why I asked....do they have powers to stop, then, and use lights etc? Good choice IMO. Fezza's and Porkers are great on track, but when the going gets hairy I'd fancy the Evo on the public roads. I don't think there are many cars that would be faster that the Evo in the range of circumstances that you get in 'real life'. I.e. speedhumps, dodgy tarmac repairs, dirty/greasy roads, rain etc etc.
Any one think they know something better suited?
(PS - It would probably be a 9, ie IX, as the 10, ie X, isn't out yet.)
(PPS - Yes, I've got one.)

What force was it?
I know one of the Essex drivers, most probably not him though (if indeed it was Essex). When Essex first got their Evos, 3 at first I believe, 2 were written off almost straight away - IIRC they raided a Pikey camp and the pikeys reversed their cars/vans over the bonnets.

I bet it's a picture as the crews fight over the keys at the beginning of each shift....I know one of the Essex drivers, most probably not him though (if indeed it was Essex). "But you had the EVO yesterday; it's your turn for the ST220!!!"
There was a bit of a blitz in Southend a few months back. ANPR at both sides of the A127. Every now and then a marked Evo went screaming past (blues and two going, having just collared and booked an offender) turned round at the Rayliegh Wier roundabout (blues and twos still on) through the red lights sything through the traffic, just to pull up at the side of the road (near BMW garage) to wait for the next 'catch'.
Now I'm all up for catching tax and insuranc dodgers, but it was wholy uneccessary to drive like that between catches, putting people's lives at risk. Very uneccessary.
Very unimpressed I was.

Why would that need to be such a quick car?!
I agree wholeheartedly about the idea behind it, but wondering why they'd need such a high performance car?

Useful performance aside there's a theory that the sight of a high powered car like that behind deters some chavs from trying to do a runner knowing they wont be able to outrun it so reducing the risks of a dangerous pursuit developing.
