hi guys,
passed my das test and it looks like im getting my bosses '98 thundercat.

thinking of going to a trackday, do i need trackday ins. how does it work with regard to me being new, slow and very cautious?

i dont want to p!ss of the big boys and dont really want to turn up without the right kit. i already wear full 2 piece leathers (no knee sliders) but i doubt i have the skill just yet to need them.

i like near high wycombe, bucks whats the best leaner track day near me? i have been told to avoid silverstone because it's dull on a bike but would that be good for a newbie?

Cheers guys

Any instruction will be good and the more miles under your belt the belt...as for trackdays, Rockingham is good for a newbie I think, not many ultra fast corners and lots of left handers..its also very, very grippy. Not a million miles away from you on a bike either.

Book on a Novice day or a day that offers groups of differing levels, as most do now..and dont be afraid to ask for an instructor for some guidance.take a buddy along to chew the cud with and have an enjoyable day out.

Insurance, i do believe it is available but you sound like you have the right attitude. Dont let the red mist take over and take yourself out of your depth, you'll be fine. Its a far safer enviroment to ride on that the road for starters.

Good luck and welcome!

Well done on passing your test mate - thundercat should be a good starter.

I did Mallory Park for my 1st trackday - it's nice and easy to learn as it's only 1.2 miles long. You'll need 1 or 2 piece leathers (which you have already), so you should be good to go. As above don't be afraid to ask - everyone, even the fast group, are there to learn and better themselves, the same as you.

Don't feel pressured in to keeping up - ride at your own pace and let the faster ones go by if they want to.

Make sure you book in to the Novice group though!

no real idea as i've not got the urge to try a trackday. however all i do know is, if you've got two piece leathers they must zip together the full way round. no little zip at the back to hold your trousers up.

Wouldn't say silverstone is a dull track, full GP circuit is a bit quick and forces you to concentrate.
Anyway, i would recommend these people for the trackday virgin, http://www.motorcyclefolly.co.uk/
Visordown people and other 'TD' operators speak of them most highly.

Don't worry about being slow on track - some of the guys in the beginners group could walk round the corners faster than they can ride!

Well done on passing - I'd recommend some further training but it depends on what you want from the bike. If you're looking to hoon then get some training from the likes of Calafornia Superbike School and the Police Safe Rider scheme.

Another vote here for the CSS, fantastic day, but you pay for it...£350 I think, but well worth it.

Smiler.

Hello mate & welcome.

I'd definitely do the Police Bikesafe or Honda MAC course (http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/en/owner/owner_mac.html) before a trackday. As others have said, the CSS is excellent for tutoring on the track.
