RS6 4.2 V8 owners Survey
Discussion
I'm sure that this has been asked before, so sorry in advance.
I'm looking at 2002-2003 RS6 Avant, 40K miles, are we looking at any major issues resulting in big bills for mechanical items that are likely to give up or go wrong, buying and runing costs not a problem, just don't want to walk into a major dent in the wallet.
Read an article that said S6 4.2 and tune ?
Thanks in advance

Good website this. The Tyresmoke boys were also very helpful when I was looking to get my RS6. The general advice I was given was:1)Check service history is up to date. At 40k I would have thought the belts should have been changed.
2) Check the DRC has had the once-over.This was my biggest concern when looking to buy as most RS6s have had some sort of problem with the DRC.
Can thoroughly recommend the RS but it aswell as being one of the quickest cars I've owned, it is also the most expensive to run. It likes a drink to put it mildly - I'm filling up with Vpower every 4-5 days at present so I'm on first-name terms with the staff in my local Shell garage! I also managed to pinch the sidewall on the nearside front tyre on a kerbstone that was jutting proud - a new Conti-sportContact was just over £220. However i soon forget all this when the V8 bellows over 3000rpm!!
Simple fact is that they are not cheap to run. 19mpg is average and that'll easily reduce if you have a heavy right foot.
An average service is 700 quid, tyres are 180 quid each.
The plus side is worth every penny though..... Not sure if, price wise, they've levelled out as you only need to look at the classifieds to notice prices can vary by 6/7K depending on mileage for a similar aged car. With the new model out towards the end of the year you may see another 5-10% come off.
If you're going to get one, look at a 40K car that's had the belt service (1-1.5K)
Personally I think is a fantastic car and will be hard to replace
