I'm sure that this has been asked before, so sorry in advance.

I'm looking at 2002-2003 RS6 Avant, 40K miles, are we looking at any major issues resulting in big bills for mechanical items that are likely to give up or go wrong, buying and runing costs not a problem, just don't want to walk into a major dent in the wallet.

Read an article that said S6 4.2 and tune ?

Thanks in advance

Good website this. The Tyresmoke boys were also very helpful when I was looking to get my RS6. The general advice I was given was:
1)Check service history is up to date. At 40k I would have thought the belts should have been changed.
2) Check the DRC has had the once-over.This was my biggest concern when looking to buy as most RS6s have had some sort of problem with the DRC.
Can thoroughly recommend the RS but it aswell as being one of the quickest cars I've owned, it is also the most expensive to run. It likes a drink to put it mildly - I'm filling up with Vpower every 4-5 days at present so I'm on first-name terms with the staff in my local Shell garage! I also managed to pinch the sidewall on the nearside front tyre on a kerbstone that was jutting proud - a new Conti-sportContact was just over £220. However i soon forget all this when the V8 bellows over 3000rpm!!

Simple fact is that they are not cheap to run. 19mpg is average and that'll easily reduce if you have a heavy right foot.
An average service is 700 quid, tyres are 180 quid each.

The plus side is worth every penny though..... Not sure if, price wise, they've levelled out as you only need to look at the classifieds to notice prices can vary by 6/7K depending on mileage for a similar aged car. With the new model out towards the end of the year you may see another 5-10% come off.

If you're going to get one, look at a 40K car that's had the belt service (1-1.5K)

Personally I think is a fantastic car and will be hard to replace

Nearside front and offside rear dampers are linked and same for other two if that makes sense. Similar sort of design as BL hydroelastic suspension of 60's-70's.Stops the car from pitching etc. Most RS6s have had problems with fluid leaking from the dampers with interesting results to the car's handling! A couple of guys on RS246.com have changed the suspension and done away with the DRC altogether. Do a search on this forum and "DRC" and you will get the replies to the same question I asked 6-7 months ago!

Out of interest Bob, how much are you looking to spend? I know of a Daytona Gray 52 Avant that may be up for sale for the right price wink

I know of a Daytona Grey Avant you could be in for £25k, but you'd need a good set of wellies and be able to buy gearbox ECU's in 6 packs!! rolleyeswink

I think if you can get 25K for a 52 car then I'd seriously consider it. Audi recently valued my '53 plate 43K car at 19K as trade in against new.

If your car is clean and specced it would retail nearer 30.

Rubbish. You only have to look through the PH classifieds to get an average way below that.
