Why don't you just use your fireblade?

Budget?

I'd take a punt on a Bandit or a Hornet or similar for between 1k and 1.5k personally.

Blade is all shiny would prefer something a little cheaper to get covered in salt etc over the winter.

Plus i am planning a load of work on the blade so will be dismantling it over winter and putting it back together ready for spring

budget wise, not more than 1.5k or so could go a bit further but dont really want to, trials bike is a good option

Ah right. My brother bought a 600 fazer for 1300 quid from a dealer in the summer which seems ok. Thundercat are good value. I was looking for an old vfr750 before I decided just to carry on using the blade and to buy something shiney for the summer (which I never did). Best winter bike I had was my old gpz-1100-e1 - the one with the zzr1100 engine in... very very comfy barge.

Am starting to regret selling my FJ1200, again excellent winter barge, am possibly thinking of a BMW 650 Funduro

an early tiger 900. I got a K plate relatively cheap, less than a grand and its great fun. Almost prefer riding that to the ducati. yikes silly me--did I say that out loud!
Seriously though, they are great to ride, surprisingly good on the twisty bits. Very tall bike and feels top heavy. But it all disappears once you get moving

I'm using a 1979 BMW R100/7 as a winter hack.

Cost about £1k, it seems to be built pretty well, it's not fast at all by modern standards but it's got sufficient grunt, handles interestingly, shaft drive so should be low maintenance now that I've serviced it. It's also pretty comfy.

It's not particularly good at anything, but does everything in a slightly peculiar way compared with modern bikes and is strangely pleasant. I think I like it !
