I own a golf gti 20v turbo. It is a '98 s reg and engine code agu. The car developed hesitation problems so i changed the mfa sensor, dump valve, air temperature sensor and air filter. Yet the car still seems to hesitate sometimes when im pulling through the gears. Anyone with anymore ideas please?????? Thankyou

All I can suggest is finding a good independent service garage who will know about your problem.

The 3.2 V6 had hesitation issues that were cured by an ECU update.

What area do you live in?

Do try Tyresmoke.net - there are plenty of VW users there who might be able to shed more light on it.

Also try searching or posting on www.uk-mkivs.net as there may be others who have suffered the same.

When was the car last serviced? Is it chipped?

Have you tried changing the spark plugs?

Might be worth getting the coil pack(s) checked out - these can be a common cause of mis-firing and hesitation..

Coil packs tend to fail completely fairly soon after they start misfiring but it is well worth checking out.

Misfires generally throw a fault code.

MAF sensors are notoriously unreliable. Try disconnecting it then driving it. If the hesitation is still the same then it's the MAF again.

Mine developed this problem about a year ago and new spark plugs cured it, and today the problem briefly came back, so I'm getting my hands dirty tomorrow and doing a service and more new plugs, just hope it's £25 well spent and it's not something more expensive. rotate

I bet it's the coolant temp sensor. My AGU engine gave up this time last year. Caused wierd problems, wouldn't start in mornings, occasionally a really high idle, and hesitation when cold.

It's 20 quid. Gotta be worth a throw. A vag com scan at the stealer is an hours labour!!

Dead easy to change as well.
