Just been out in the mother's TT, very nice, always been wary of the hairdresser image, but as my wife's a hairdresser, I thought i'd get away with a quick blast. Anyway, impressions are good, apart from an annoying jolt when accelerating in first gear, not too sure if that's some sort of TC or not though?
It certainly feels quick, and I did give it some stick on a nice clear roundabout, to see what it did, for some reason I think it understeers slightly, which (bear in mind i've never so much as glanced at the spec sheet on one of these) wasn't what I expected. It was a short drive, but it seems very spirited. Engine note is dissapointing, but then I didn't expect fireworks. Overall, for my mum, a nice motor, and my thoughts on them has changed substantially.

Yep, they are a nice car!
I'm not surprised you found it to slightly understeer, as in standard spec, they're on the side of safety rather than fun! The Haldex is biased to 85%/15% front to rear in normal driving, only moving to the rear when it detects slippage. I find if you turn the ESP off, it gets rid of the stutter you've experienced, however if it happens throughout the rev range and the gears, then it may be a bit more serious and the MAF may need to be replaced.
Have you found the 3rd sunvisor yet?

Yeah, as he said, if by stutter you mean a sudden loss of power, then suddenly its back, it's probably the MAF, my uncle's had to replace his and my Dad had the same thing in his old '99 A6 1.8T.
3rd sun visor? Do you mean the little thing behind the rear-view mirror like in the old A6?

Had mine for over 5 years now and it's stayed so long cos it's ideal for what I need. Not sure bout your jerky 1st gear issue but it does not sound right. That said the ESP setup can cut fuel or brake individual wheels so it can be something to do with this.
If you have problems understeering on roundabouts, keep your right foot in. The Haldex will bring in the rear and help you round - there is zero torque to the rear unless slip is detected then it feeds in (my tyres need replacing 4 at once which just goes to show how often the rears come into effect!). Best is to go into roundabouts a bit slower and power out rather than go in fast.

That's not quite right, it's 0% to the rears until the car detects wheel slip.will have to go look this evening when it's back on the driveway, wouldn't like to mislead anyone...

hmmm, I'm sure that I read that in the handbook Ben... BTW, I must say hello sometime when I'm in Voyager House!

Bugger me, does that mean I've got another stalker? will have to go look this evening when it's back on the driveway, wouldn't like to mislead anyone...
Or maybe I just need a slightly more subtle car
If your about let me know, always up for a beer / lunch with a fellow PHer.
PS... I'm right (well at least for Gen 1 Haldex cars such as the MK1 TT / S3 / Golf 4Motion etc.)
