Epson DX7400 Printer won't print envelopes

I've recently installed the above printer.
When first installed a couple of days ago it printed DL 220 X110 envelopes without a problem.
Now it tries to print the address in portrait format when it should be in landscape.
A phone call to Epson customer/technical support told me that the fault lay with Microsoft Works and not the printer itself.
Epson gave me the MS technical support line telephone number. When I spoke to the MS technical helpline they told me they no longer support MS Works 7.0
FFS someone please help otherwise the same fate will befall this printer as the last one from Kodak. . . . . (lobbed out of an upstairs window in a fit of pique last Saturday . . .

The pile of scrap envelopes continues to grow.. . . .
