This evening (18th Feb 08) My Metallic blue Audi A4 Cabriolet with Audi sat nav and a light creamish leather interior reg RN04 GZP was stolen from my driveway in weston-super-mare in North Somerset between 8 and 9pm. It was a professional job as the car was sat on the driveway and i was sat in the house just 6 feet away from it. They must have rolled the car out of the drive with no lights on so as not to attract any attention. I only bought the car 2 weeks ago so I suspect that the dealer (in Bristol) may have had something to do with it as they would have needed a key to do this (the dealer could have supplied the key code to someone). If you have had the same thing happen to you recently then please get in contact so that I can see if there is any link to the same dealer. If anyone has any information which helps to find the car a reward will be given.

Thanks for reading,

James

Sorry to hear this.

What do the insurance company have to say about this?

how many keys did you get with the car?

also the police should be able to check if a key / transponder was issued as a code will need to be supplied from audi germany.

i remember when i enquired about a new key from audi they said audi germnay has to issue a code or something

Man that totally sucks. I do hope you get it back. Did you get the car from an actual Audi dealership?

We had the keys to our old '99 A6 1.8T 2yrs ago from our drive, Mum scared them off and I was made to sit on the car whilst we found the only other key, the 'workshop key'. Left it in my grannies carport with a bike lock wound around the s'wheel and the door pull to stop the door being opened. We part ex'd it for a new A6 about 2 weeks later, we'd been planning to sell it soon anyway. Not so helpful for you as yours is worth a lot more and you only just got the thing!!

I guess all you can do is sit tight and hope the police do their jobs

They dont give you a code. The car would be plugged into the diagnostic computer and information will be taken out of the cars ecu. The data will then be sent to germany online and the key will then be coded through an off / on ignition cycle. So the only way to do this, is if you are missing a key or another key has been ordered and coded whilst at the dealership.

Thats just bascally what i said. I know you dont personally get the code, its for coding the key from audi germany. i had this done at audi for my s3 last year.

what im getting at is that if a key has been ordered then audi will have this on their system

sorry too hear also about your car going missing i recently was burgled whilst asleep and they also took my car , back to your worry about the keys , there are devices on the market which will ,if close enough clone your signal from your key fob when you lock or unlock you car and all they need to do is unlock with this system ie no alarm and take there time to start and drive away , sorry to tell you but the wan%$rs who do this are very professional indeed ,as i found out also .
hope you get some good new`s soon

I would be surprised if the dealer was involved - not only is the key an order to chassis number job it requires a V5c, drivers licence and proof of ID.

The engineer coding the key would also need to be in the presence of the car so the ECU could 'learn' the transponder.
