The driver picking up a skip from outside our house yesterday knocked my bike over.

The damage isn't extensive, however it consists of a small crack to the fairing where the mirror hit the ground and a small scrape on the exhaust.

Had the driver been polite enough to inform his employers I would probably let it go with a few quid to get the vital parts second hand. However as my bathroom fitters who helped him put the bike up tell me he didn't seem to care. Plus when I phoned his company they weren't aware, plus the skip was only meant to be collected today. I think I want a new fairing and a new set of zorsts...Am I unreasonable?

Just done the sums, new front fairing, right hand mirror, associated parts to fit the mirror and a right hand silencer. A grand total of just over £1100.

And thats without labour!!!

I would siggest getting a full quote for the repairs (including labour) from your local dealers. Don't forget to also get a quote for a hire bike for the time that yours is in for repair. This will then give you a definative amount that should be paid by the skip comapany.

Well, they've asked for a quote from a dealer due to the value of the works required.

Any suggestions of dealers whoc deal with Aprilias within a reasonable distance from Woking?

I've spoken to Infinity and whilcst they can give me a cost, they are not an official Aprilia dealer anymore.

Thanks,

Phill

Definitely not.. As you say if the guy was a bit more apologetic about it then you would probaby be a bit more 'accidents happen' about it.. But hey if he wants to be an arse then he can get the grief from his company and they can pay to get the bike back to perfect..

My gf's bike got knocked over in a parking bay by one of those "city car club" Prius (what is the plural of Prius?) you see everywhere in London.

The damage wasn't significant, but they hadn't picked the bike up and had the left the car half way parked over the bike.

I told her to take masses of photos and she phoned in a claim against CCC with the photos following 5 mins later...

The bike was returned last Friday and I hardly recognised it (a 1999 Hornet 600) - the insurers has spent £1800 on it, basically replacing anything with a mark on it. It looks MINT. Brand new.

The guy fked up and didn't even have the courtesy to apologise / leave a note etc and she has benefited, as she should.

Go for it!

Make sure and inform the police.

The driver has caused damage to another motor vehicle and has also left the scene without leaving you his details.
Also, he should inform the police of the damage he has caused.

Similar thing happened to me years ago when a big industrial container I was parked behind swung into the front of my car as it was being loaded onto the lorry.
This happened right before my eyes as I walked back from the shops!
Driver was very much "well, you shouldn't have been parked there in the first place" (like, in a parking space by the side of the road?), and drove off without giving me any details (though the big writing down the side of his cab and his reg no were a bit of a giveaway).

The police were informed, the driver was charged and the firms insurance picked up the tab without a murmer.

Car was four inches shorter at the front than previously (it was only a Mk II Escort, so not very rigid) and could not be repaired. At the time, I thought the car was worth about £400, they offered £600, result!

The people who helped pick the bike up could be good witnesses!
