Has anyone got actual experience on running a 1.9, 150BHP turbo-diesel (53 Reg Golf GTI) purely on vegetable oil? From my research it should be fine but I could really do from hearing from someone who's actually running on it to help me cross the "psychological barrier"!!
TDi pd 150 Golfs are known to eat their camshafts at around 70-90k miles, apparently due to using the wrong oil, i would be very carefulHow should the fuel, veg oil in this instance, affect the camshaft wear?
Had a non-pd tdi in last week for a service, did not seem to go as well as similar diesel powered cars. The owners suggested this was normal. Smelt like a chippy and the smell was very noticeable in the car.

Trying to run on pure vegetable oil may affect your fuel pump & injectors as it's more viscous than normal diesel. Ask around on www.vwdiesel.net to see if anyone has any actual experience of running on veggie oil.
My golf's too old to offer you first hand advice I'm afraid as it uses IDI not PD
Good luck,
