Has anyone done this... Im considering the DAS couse at Mallory Park. It sounds like a nice mix of proper riding instruction and the stuff you need to pass the test.. its probably 250 quid more than a normal DAS.

any thoughts

Cheers G

p.s. They've e-mailed me to day suggesting I do the CBT with them as well on a 4 day course, and they can do it all earlier than i've been able to book the CBT here doh..... think I'd still prefer a gap between the two though, even if its only a couple of weeks !!!

I did this a few years with Sean Hayes based at Donington and would highly recommend both him and the CBT approach. There's so much space to play with on the track (we used the Melbourne Loop) and it was a great place to try out faster cornering as well as hard braking. Sean was keen that I should improve as a rider and not merely learn how to pass the test.

Go for it I say! Oh, and good luck whatever you end up doing!

A cracking course.

I'll start with my only complaint from the course first, the boots. They say they supply all the gear but didn't have a pair of size 12 or at a stretch size 11 boots for me, so if you are a big lad then get your gear first if possible.

as for the course itself it was excellent. I did my first day with Sean Hayes and completed the basic CBT stuff along with some very helpful high speed emergency stops, including some while cornering. It improves your confidence massively as you get to judge the grip in a safe environment and with some very good instruction. This was all done at the circuit itself, I was on a 600 Bandit and they have a 500 of some sort too.

The final 3 days were done with dave, who from what I can tell is a regular instructor. Very much a no nonsense bloke and a brilliant rider, as was proven after a pillion ride with him, it cemented why I wanted a bike.
when riding on the road, as soon as they are happy that you are safe to be on the road you go in groups of 3. Dave has 1 pillion and one rider ahead, one behind him. Being a pillion gives you a chance to relax and pick apart the other peoples riding, which sticks all the points dave mentions on the ride in your head.

I passed first time with no real issues and wasn't fazed by my first ride on the road. It's much more a course for learning how to ride, not learning how to pass a test.

Highly reccomended.

Dave!

Personally i'd do the 4 day course as that's 1 more day on the Bandit and one more day to familiarise yourself with it.

those of you who have done the training, how easy was it to ride your bike of choice and where u able to change between the bikes as you pleased. or stay with the bike you felt most comfortable with. how long did it take you to find your favourite bike.

Hi Graham -

What helmet, gloves and boots did you buy?

That helmet that I was looking at buying isn't going to be available in the UK until June-ish, so I'm going to be buying something else. Already decided on what I'm getting smile

Helmet :-Arai Condor £199 in silver
Gloves :- Weise Hipora £34 plain leather with water proof liner. I didnt want anything too mad max!! and they feel nice
boots :- going to have a look thisavo but again something fairly plain..

I dont want to spend too much at the moment, The total will still be something like 400 quid...
plus theory £30 + cbt £125 + das £750 yikes

and I'll borrow trousers and jacket from the cbt and das peeps... but I prefer my own helmet gloves and boots...

Actually after wearing the lid for 15 mins in the house ( dont laugh) I think Im going to see if i can swap it for the next size up. It was 50/50 on which one, but i think its just a little bit too tight.. i know it'll thin out a bit but not enough..

Hey, if you came round my house at the right or wrong (depends upon your point of view) moment, you would have found me in my Sidi boots and wearing my new Rev-It gloves. Just wait until I get my leathers biggrinhehe
