I am lookingfor a car and a Noble is on the list, there is one for sale not too far from me - (100miles) it is advertised as a 2001 GTO-3T and described as 2.5litre.

I thought the GTO was 2.5litre and the GTO-3 was 3litre, am I wrong ?

You are correct, a GTO is 2.5 litres and a 3/3R is 3.0 litres. This does not stop people, including dealers, advertising 2.5 litre cars as a GTO-3. Have a look on autotrader, there are normally a few like that.

There was going to be a GTO-3T once. Lighter more track biased with sequential box (I think?) etc etc. Never happened.

Aye this one is on Autotrader.

I am not put off by it being a 2.5 (should I be ?) but the description just didn't look right.

I will still go to have a look at it when I get home, I am working in Baku and get home in a couple of weeks, so if it is still there I will go to see how it looks.

Anything in particular I should be looking at when I view/drive the car ?

Definitely the price if they're advertising the wrong model.

I wouldnt get a 2.5 if I were you . they have reliability problems that others will no doubt advise you of better shortly . Save up and get a 3 or a 3R I would suggest . good luck ! smile

Yep - carbon body panels and sequential box, around £70k.

The only " reliabilty problems" relate tothe open diff on the 2.5's and those models that haven't had the upgrades and ecu sorted

There have been some of the 2.5's blow their diff and move across to a lsd. Doesn't happen to all of them but it does limit how far you can increase the power. early cars didn't have the MBE ecu which can cause problems.

If you are after a 2.5 make sure it has the upgraded ecu and all the other upgrades that were avaiable. A well sorted 2.5 just as good as the 3 and better in some peoples eyes. Don'r discount a 2.5 just make sure you get one thats been looked after and sorted.

Thanks guys,

I was going to put up a link to the ad on autotrader to ask if it was a known car but it is no longer there so I guess it is sold.

I will keep looking

Thanks

yes They're not exactly slow even with the smaller engine. Diff and ECU (including the earlier 3.0s) are a must unless you want a big bill at some point. Fan upgrade would definitely be desirable too. Best thing I ever did was total my 2.5 as it had some ECU issues and no fan upgrade that I didn't fully understand when I bought it.

With over a 100K on the clock, and regular visits to tracks. My 2.5L has lasted pretty well thank you.
I've only had to change the engine once, and that was as a result of a incompetent dealer (thankfully a dealer no more).

If well looked after a 2.5L will be as much fun as a 3.0L car, and in some situations the 2.5L is far more effective.

Jools is right, a sorted 2.5 is just a little bit 'sharper' than the others. ECU and LSD and you have seriously capable car yes
