I live near Bedford. Could anyone tell me who locally to myself could possibly “chip” my new 3.0tdi A6. I did have details of a company near Northampton but seem to have misplaced them…
Thanks.

On this point, do any of these things actually work?

Do not chip it! Get it re-mapped. DMS are the guys I would recommend having had loads of clients cars done there.

Chipping and remapping are the same thing. In the past a remap was applied to a new chip which was then swapped in the ECU. Nowadays, the remap is applied direct to the ECU via the diagnostics port.

I think you mean fitting a piggy back tuning box?

Remaps are better than tuning boxes and can be applied by companies such as DMS, Superchips, e-maps etc.

When Superchips did my last Audi, they put a different chip in, so a remap is not a re-chip

Yes, my point is the new chip will be re-mapped from standard.

Hello all..it seems like some people are getting confused about a 'chip'and a remap, as a proffesional remapping company I feel it my duty to clear up any confusion!! Chipping is the traditional method where a new chip will have a performance/economy map programmed into it, the ECU will have to be removed, the old chip taken out and the new chip soldered back into the ECU.
Remapping on the other hand is where you flash across a file to the ECU via the cars OBD diagnostic port. You remove the old map (store it on your computer incase the car needs to go back to standard eg if selling) and then upload the new map to the ECU. So no removal of the ECU is required.
Remapping is more reliable and holds less risks and in effect is the 'new' chip tuning. It can be done on most cars 2000> so thats why some people still refer to chipping as not every car can be 'remapped'

spot on, hence me clenching of cheeks on the chipping topic on a new 3.0tdi, could be a tuning box but at £20... i would still point the gent towards a garage based remap... always good to hear from tuners smile
