Hi all,

Quick question- im looking to change my tyres on my Quattro. They are currently 215/50/15 and I am finding it had to replace this type of tyre. I have been told I can put on 225/50/15. Will this affect the handling and control or will this be a feasable option? Any ideas?

Many thanks

Might be an issue with fouling of the wheel arches. I think that Dunlop doa 215/50/15 tyre that's suitable. Talk to Roger Galvin at The Quattro Workshop - 01455 208037

As long as your Ur has not been seriously lowered you shouldnt have too much of a problem. I had 225's on mine for 10 years and only gave a concern when car was fully loaded and i was pushing it around bends, only then was there a "rubbing" issue, but even then it was minor.

Ok the car has been lowerd but im planning on putting it back up the ormal high. There are a few issues with the car that im haveing to overcome. Do you know what serpenshion would fit with the car and the possable wider tyers (225)

You really dont need to lower these cars they were designed to be the height they are because they work best and look best at that height. If you start playing with ride height it really messes up the geometry of the rest of the suspension and needs some specialist knowhow on resetting everything.

Keep it standard and go for 225's

This i agree with. The car has allready been lowerd and i need to find some original springs to go back on the car. Dose any one know where these springs can be found?

Many thanks.

I may be mistaken but weren't the 20 valves set slightly lower than the 10valves? My RR certainly looked about 1/2' lower than the WR I'm currently fiddling around with. But I agree with your principle, I think they look crap when seriously lowered, esp when also fitted with daft wheels.

I have a hunch that because the ur's were basically hand-built, they all finished up being slightly "different" somewhere along the way, maybe the ride height took the tolerance and thats why they dont all look the same. I think you are right, the 15 inch standard wheels look just right with the correct off-set, as they fill the arches perfectly, i have seen the odd one or two quattro's with 17"s on and i think they look well out of place.
