Hi all, new to PH and also hopefully going to be new to bikes!

I'm booking my CBT soon, and this led to me looking around for a suitable bike after doing the test. I fell in love with the '08 Ninja 250R, which will require me to do my test.
I went today to the local dealers to find one, and he told me I'd be lucky to get one this year!!! There were however 3 YZF R125's which looked wayyyyy better than the Kwak IMHO.

It brings me to this. Is there anyone who might have driven any of these bikes or heard if they are any good? ...And what are your opinions, considering that I am looking to just have fun on the road, and would rather not take the test lol.

I am considering to just do my CBT and then hop onto a r125 - totally possible with only a CBT right?

Many thanks in advance!!

P.S I'm only 18 and want the quickest way to get on a bike!

for a first timer your best bet would be a 125 but not the yam, too pricey and not very good build quality, also doesnt really reflect the experience of a big bike, try a cbr125r if you must have a 4 stroke but i would reccomend an aprillia rs125/derbi gpr 125 or even a nice cagiva mito......

Thanks for that I had look into those, and the new shape Aprilia looks very nice. It would be hard to get hold of the new Mito though wouldn't it?

Ideally I want the bike to be a good base to progress on to larger bikes, and the Aprilia for some reason still gives me that "hood-rat" impression, where as the R125 looks so similar to the R6 that it does it a little more justice...

In terms of the ride experience then, what's going to be quicker and better around corners?

The 2 strokes will be quicker. The R125 will be lucky to do 70mph whereas the RS/Mito will do 100 once de-restricted, although to legally de-restrict them you need to pass your test but plenty people ride de-restricted bikes on a CBT. I would get your test sorted though as its going to get alot harder and more expensive in October so you need to get it done before then if you plan on going onto bigger bikes.

The thing is I really do want to just get on the road, and start riding. The way I see it is, that the CBT is the only thing between me and the road if I settle for a 125. Obviously the new test regulations are something I have to keep in mind.

I've shortlisted the YZF-R125, CBR125 and the RS125...all of which I can ride on a CBT. Now all I need to find out is which is the best! I intend of fiddling with the restriction on any of these bikes anyway hehe

the modern 2 strokes go better, handle better, and stop/turn quicker than any of the 4 stroke babys, saying that though the cbr125 was a brilliant tool, imho a better all round bike than the r125.

You've all been such a great help, and I am one step closer to making my mind up!
I've got off the phone to Red Dog in Kent and I'm going to consider the 07 Mito, it's alot cheaper that the 08 (once it arrives) and it can be argued that it looks just as good!

Thank you to all, PH has definitely aided my decision. I'll keep you lot informed and upload some pics when I get round to buying something!
