Chaps - has anyone removed their trim panels to replace them with different ones? I've bought some aluminium ones from a scrappy who happened to have a smashed Z4 roadster. As the panels looked the same, I decided I'd go for it...and only cost £25 which, given that BMW want £650 for new ones, I thought was a good deal. Just fancied a change from the Piano black ones that came with it.

1. Is it just brute force to prise them off, or are you supposed to reach underneath and release them from behind first?
2. How do you get the air vents and cd head unit loose to replace the left hand panel?
3. The metal finish is a bit dull...can anyone recommend something to polish them up with? There are some rough edges so I was hoping they might be able to be re-finished. Any ideas?

I've got both the Airbag disable light and the Sport button on the current centre console, neither of which the donor car had...although I will just get the holes drilled as they are marked out on the back of the centre console panel.

Any advice gratefully received as always.

Cheers,
J.

Whats your current trim that you are replacing, out of interest?

The Piano black interior is ace why change it?

What's the spec of your Z so I can criticise your currently sounding silly undertaking?

ETA: Which aluminium ones, brushed, cube...?

LOL, the aluminium trim is the free standard trim and the piano black is a relatively expensive option. I'm sure you will turn a profit if you sell the piano black trim after removing it.

The expense isn't really the crux of the matter imo, it's what suits the car best. It's like I prefer the 5 spoke split rims or the ellipsoids to the M-wheels on the M4.

Blue with Beige cloud9

Erm the brushed alu looks ok but prefer the black. As you say a bit different for now.
