hi i have been lurking around this site for some time now,and have just recently joined up,i have owned my 330 sport for 18 months now and i have to admit i do now and then open the taps on occasion but only when i feel it is safe(as safe as can be on our potholed/badly maintained roads)now i dont consider myself a nutter behind the wheel, and i dont drive it like i stole it,what annoys me is the way bmw owners are portrayed on pistonheads and other sites, you often hear the term typical bmw 3 series repmobile driver or flash git in a beemer, now in my family we have a318 saloon (father in law) a318 coupe (brother in law) a z4m (my sister an other halfs)i think the youngest driver is about 4o and the oldest is 64 so what is it that gives people that image of us? your thoughts please. ps sorry if this has been done before

BMW-driver-bashing is a British pastime. Just let it wash over you. I'm always hearing that BMW-drivers don't indicate... BMW-drivers tailgate... BMW-drivers cut people up... BMW-drivers barge into queues... My observations suggest that the percentage of drivers of any make of car that drive like selfish c**ts is just the high as the percentage of BMW-drivers who do. But the shepherd like to wage his war against BMW-drivers only... and where the shepherd goes, the sheep will surely follow.

If BMW drivers are bad then Micra drivers are the spawn of the devil-forget intimidation and tailgating these things are F-ing dangerous.

Im serious, next time you see an old shape Micra near you be prepared to do a J-turn manouvre or emergency stop.

It's a stereotype, but there is an element of truth in it. BMW is probably the only mass-market producer who have a reputation for making dynamic, responsive cars, whether an M5, or a 116i.

They are all sporty to drive, so, if your personality is biased towards more sporting driving, which manufacturer will you be drawn to ? Therefore, it follows that BMW drivers are more pre-dispossed to drive faster than non BMW drivers, on average. That doesn't mean that all BMW drivers are cocks, but by weight of numbers, there will be more cocks that in Audis, Fords, Toyotas etc.

I can't, in all honesty, say that I give a monkey's what people think of me as a BMW driver. I'm an individual, not a stereotype.

This is the sort of arrogant bollux that gives BMW drivers a bad name, they are very good cars but not even close to the ultimate driving machine.
I have no desire to own a BMW, so why would I be jealous of somebody who does?
Audi drivers are probably worse than BMW drivers these days anyway, they are the new must have brand for the "out of my way I am far more important than you" types.

This one has been around for so long hasn't it?
I can only say that when I hear someone say that it just reeks of ignorance and "following the crowd, coz my mate said it..."

I'm just as likely to see bad driving from a sales rep in a tdi VW/Audi, young estate agent in a Boxster-living-with-mother, an angry middle chap in an MPV, a school-run mum in a 4x4 or some ancient old timer in a Nissan Micra (see how easy it is to stereotype wink)

But then when I had a BMW I was often wondering "What the hell do these people think they are doing in my lane!!"
hehe

If you'd asked me say 5 years ago, I'd have said that it was to a degree true. Having said that, I don't think that it's a reflection of the car, just the type of driver in question.
I now think that most of these impolite gits have now wandered off to drive Audis, so I feel far more comfortable tootling around in my motor.

I've sold my BMW now, but a Micra-driving colleague still brands me a BMW driver. frown

The traffic was very busy pulling out of my street onto the main road this morning. I had to wait some time for a space, and guess what let me in?

A BMW of course.

I've never owned a BMW, but 10 years ago the department I worked in had a 520i as a pool car, and I thrashed it across the UK, to meetings with equipment suppliers. (Mainly from Skelmersdale to Leicester and back via the M6, A50 and M1)

There was something about driving that car that turned me into a Nutter. Someone else paid the fuel and repairs, and servicing. The radio was long gone and it had been abused by my collegues, one of whom had used it to visit sister companies in France and Italy and was forced to replace both rear tyres before he got back to the UK (They were new when he left the UK)

The thing that stood out to me was that the rest of the motorists on the road treated a black 5 series like the driver had raped their granny.

No I didn't, I have seen many BMW drivers come out with this jealousy/ultimate driving machine bullst on numerous threads discussing this subject and it does seem that many actually believe it.

Just for clarity it was meant with tongue firmly in cheek. I would have been mighty disappointed if somebody hadn't taken umbrage though !

BTW - Pooh, wtf is a 'stimulation supervisor' ?

..and it seems that some also have a huge chip on their shoulder or bee in their bonnet about those 'few' and try to emphasise how prevalent it is when in fact it's a few idiots. BMW's are often great drivers cars though perhaps not the ultimate driving machine, though it could be argued within their class they are often the ultimate driving machine. It is ironic however that the 'few' who try to emphasise the fact others are jelous are usually driving a BMW they paid 500 quid for! laugh

When people see the BMW badge in their rear view mirror they should respond exactly as they would if it were a blue flashing light - get the f**k out of the way.

Unless it's another BMW driver, they will never look in their mirrors of course and you will reach a point of impass.
