Getting your knee down, how does it feel?
Discussion
I'm not asking about the technique to do it etc, that's been covered well enough already.
I'm more wondering how it actually feels?
Is there much drag at all?
Do you suddenly feel more stable and put a little weight on the knee?
Does it act as a reference to your lean angle?
Do men want to be you?
Do women want to be with you?
etc etc
Dave!

Make sure you have knee sliders!!
Knee down is unnecessary on UK roads. it is normally a slower way of going round corners.
It is more for pub hero tales!
It is surprising first time knee down it is very graceful and you just feel a bit of pressure on your knee pushing back up.
No real world use!

I doubt i'd be doing it any time soon even if my bike were fixed, I was just curious about what it feels like. My knee sliders come with my trousers, they feel slightly rubbery to touch so I wasn't sure if when people get their knee down on tracks etc if it took a certain amount of effort to keep it there, or maybe it would glide wonderfully.

Only ever done it on the track, and can't ever see me giving it that much on the roads TBH. It feels great. I felt a lot more stable and was really digging it into the ground! Pushing the bike away from you and trying to get it upright whilst getting back on the throttle is a corker of a feeling, BUT remember to "get back on" when the front starts to come up..much easier to control then!!
If you’re scraping your pegs you’re close to the bikes lean limits at that point, with the end can or maybe on some bikes a frame rail next to ground out, which could have you off....and more than likely wearing your boots out on the road with a “duck footed” riding position.
If you adopt a knee down riding position you will INCREASE your safety margin as the bike will be travelling at the same (with much more to come) corner speed for LESS lean angle. You won’t be wearing your boots out so easily either..
For those reasons a knee down technique (even if you don’t go all the way over knee down)works as well on the road as well as it does the track, practising it also gives you a confidence and to change direction hard and fast using a high degree of lean which you may have previously felt un familiar with and may not have normally naturally used in an emergency situation...which is also handy when something veers into your path or you’re riding an un familiar road.
Same as wheelies, they don’t necessarily add anything to road riding and could land you in trouble with the law but those that can do them well usually have a good deal of bike control and are generally fast-er riders
..and it also feels the bks.... guess it’s the 4 wheel equivalent of holding a power slide or something similar
