Request to the collective for help with what to pay a stealer for a 4.8i SE X5 - space grey, 07 with 16k miles, sat nav and a few other options.

Up at the dealer for shade under £39k.

Don't do many miles so big petrol doesn't bother me and in this climate big petrol cars are looking good value for money.

It's between this and a Q7...

Cheers,

Phil

I don't know what your idea of 'good value for money' is but an X5 for £40k surely isn't it.

Phil DO NOT buy it mate, they are loosing shed loads at this time, my mate only got 12K back for his 2 1/2 year old V8 X5 sport with 30K on the clock. Stealers did not even bid on it.

Please make sure its not this one

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/auc/car_details/0,,1260...

Its missing the all important Dynamics Pack, which is pretty much an essential for any sort of hope of resale (which will be bleak anyway)

This one is better...

Also, these are not value for money at all.

You can get a 3.0d SE for the same money (ie, something you have a hope of selling again)

In fact you can buy an 08 3.0d for that money....

The 4.8i would have to be a LOT cheaper.

Well, it didnt seem to be in the o/p's original post, moreso that they 'seem good value'.

a £39K v8 x5 will depreciate like snow falling off a ditch. You'd have to enjoy big V8s 'a lot'

Big V8's are definitely order of the day, not a diesel fan and looking forward to Le Mans next year when petrols will come back into contention.

Thanks for the advice on the Bedford one, to be honest having driven it and seen it in the flesh the 18 inch wheels were enough to put me off it.

On the depreciation front, the finance deals being offered are underwriting some big numbers as guaranteed value after 3 years - just under £20k for this one or £27k on 2 years - I'm definitely going to get someone else to take on the depreciation risk.

Thanks for all the input.

Cheers,

Phil

yikes

I know things are bad, but is that value, and the other details, really correct? Was there something wierd about the spec of the car?

Yes, that would be the way to do it. Just make sure you get the mileage right otherwise they will charge you heavily if you hand it back.

They definitely need the dynamics pack, and most people go for the 20 inch alloy wheel (snowflake) upgrade too which sets them off. I'd that on mine. It was space grey, 3.0d, 7 seats, dynamic, media (nav), xenons, reversing cam (really nice if you find one with it), black glass, usb, autochanger, bluetooth, towbar. Great cars.
