Unlucky. The positioning issue is so important on tests. In their eyes, if you think you have to 'go around' a drain, you're going too fast. Forget the fact that when you pass you'll be taking racing lines and avoiding drains like the plague, on the test STAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE!

Better luck next time.

unlucky, dont give up though.

you can obviously do it no problem if the rest of the test is faultless, just a matter of nailing it on the day. have you another slot booked to re-do your test?

I had to ride over a huge flat manhole cover at the apex of a corner (why the fk do the council or road planners or whoever put manhole covers on the apexes of bends? It's lethal in the wet for bikers rage ) on my test. It was February, freezing cold and pissing it down. Needless to say, the front wheel slipped away, followed by the rear, and either sheer good luck or natural balance ended up with me staying on the bike as it regained grip back on tarmac a metre down the road. Basically the bike went from a slight lean (as required to get round the bend) to a full-on race-corner angle (I suppose I should have got my knee down hehe ) and then back to the slight lean again.

If I'd made any drastic movements when the bike slipped, I'd have come off, which I suppose is instant test fail. It appears also that if I'd deliberately ridden around the hazard (as I consider manhole covers to be) then I'd have failed like you did.

Instead, I passed. Not a great advertisement for testing procedure - in the rain, I reckon I was just lucky and 75% of new bikers would have come off on that manhole cover. If I hadn't been so cold and finding it hard to concentrate, I'd have probably ridden round the manhole cover - and failed. Funny old world...

That's so ridiculous. I've only had one rainy manhole cover incident and that was on the first day of the DAS on a 125. Lost the back end but didn't fall off. You'd think that avoiding a hazard shows good observation skills and bike control. As long as its done safely. After all, we have to sit the stty hazard perception test. Codswallop to the lot of it.

Bad luck on the test mate, you'll nail it next time. Hope you get some better weather and watch those speedswink (I got shouted at almost non stop by my instructor for keeping up with traffic and going to fast... Just couldn;t help it)

Unlucky man, it took me three attempts to pass my driving test despite being in the comfort of a car so don't give up.

Whats this about getting a fail for avoiding a manhole cover? I wasn't aware of that when I did my riding test in the wet! Surely it isn't a serious/major fault unless you cause another road user to take action or something??? I mean even a minor fault would be harsh if were avoiding a manhole cover, especially in the wet, let alone a test fail? confused Unlucky about the speeding too, when I did my test I was more in danger of failing due to riding too slow...

Thats sucks dude.

I failed last week....

Check this one out..

On a left turn just before a bend, look right, look left, nothing coming, pull out and away i go. Next thing i know a van is sitting on my back tyre. The van had come flying round the corner at max speed. Since the van had to slow down, i get an instant fail. Doesnt matter if he was going 100mph or 10mph.

Gutted.

Oh well, i will pass next time......... I hope! smile

Never mind mate, keep cracking on though. Got a date for the re-test yet?
