Hi all,

So I’d would like to start off by thanking everyone for offering me such great advice and encouragement on, thinking about getting into bikes, going through my DAS and advice on my first bike.

From previous posts I was considering buying a 1995 BMW R1100R as a first bike or a 2000ish Suzuki SV650S fully faired.

Anyway the BMW I was hoping to buy, which I was told was going to be an absolute bargain went for well over the Parkers listed price and had fault with the brakes hydraulics, master cylinder and ABS control module. Also required a MOT and collecting from up north. So basically I didn’t buy it. My subsequent offer on a 1997 BMW R850R was turned down, the mileage was high on it but for the right money it was worth a punt.

So I then found a 2003 Suzuki SV with a month left on the tax and MOT for really good money. Turned up to the vendors address late after work and found the Bike to have damage all over (it had been down the road on its side) and no MOT and TAX. WTF!!?!? Anyway the owner insisted I buy it and was intimidating. I was proper fekked off because it was far from the bike described and to top it off how was I supposed to ride it home? Bloke thought it was legal to ride a un-taxed and non MoT’d bike home, never mind it invalidated my insurance cover. We exchanged words and I trekked home on the train with a wad of cash and all my bike gear very late. Lessoned learned.

Ok so that the sob story over with. From my previous posts some of you may know that my ultimate bike would be a Ducati Sport Classic 1000 Paul Smart replica. That’s the bike that floats my boat. smile Well I am not up for that kind of purchase quite yet. Next year may be different.

I went to see a bike last night and my heart totally ruled my head and against my better judgement and that o my biking mates, I bought a 1995 Ducati 600 Monster. It was high miles for a Ducati with a genuine 23,000 on the clock. Well some of my mates seem to think that’s high for a Ducati. I paid bang on parkers list price for it, which makes it so far under my budget its unture.
The nice chap I bought it from sells bikes for a living and delivered it to mee and gave me a water proof cover from his Daytona as he knew it would be a while before I get a garage space for it. Very decent of him.
It’s yellow (the colour I really wanted) and it’s had two new tyres a full service and the belts done, new bearings and over all it’s a nice bike with perfect front forks and seals. It has a year’s tax and mot and it’s been fairly well maintained.

I am over the moon and can’t wait to clean it up to my standard and detail it. I can’t believe I bought a Ducati. My wife is so happy for me as this is the brand she likes the most.

I don’t have picture but this is what it kinda looks like.

it felt small though when I sat on it. So light compared to the CBF600 I learned on and the engine feels different when revving. V Twin??

Now I just need some insurance smile any recommendations?

Nice one! I love the look of Ducatis (was drooling over the collection at On Yer Bike this past weekend) and it's one of those "one day" bikes for me... need to clear out some space in the garage and let there be 2 Sundays every week first tho smile

I like that - nicer than either of the BMW's and definitely more stylish than a scruffy SV!

You could try http://www.moneysupermarket.com/bike/ for starters?

I wanted a Monster for my first bike, but a new car was the priority sadly. Now i have said new car (Alfa 147 if you were asking...) i can get on the save for a shiny Monster.

Not sure if i want black or Yellow! Stunning looking bikes.
