Track days - Stopping the bike
Discussion
Right, picture the scene.
I'm hairing down the back straight, leaving the braking till the final second. Muffman is right behind me, and I fear a pass is on his mind.
So, I nail the brakes, and the back is swinging wildly around. To the point where I'm now going sideways, and facing a disaster! And there he goes, smooth as you like, up the inside. No amount of elbows was gonna stop him. So, what can I do a) to me, and b) to the bike to get beeter braking. Thing is, I thought it was a weight issue, as the back was on-off-on-off the floor, so I couldn't brake any harder.
However, he did it!!
And whilst we're here, The brakes took such a hammering that they kinda seized on! Decided enbough was enugh after that!

Suspension setup and descent beakes mate. Need to have a chat with Yoda about what you want. Remember I've had my bike set up for the track with different settings for fast road riding. Pretty much it in a nut shell.
Must admit mate, felt bloody good and I had to be brave to come by. Was really impressed with your riding on Saturday.

Was you touching the back brake at all? It doesn't sound like it.If you are going down the back straight approaching the bend, and going 'that' fast, you can't just rely on giving the front brake a handful. Did you put new pads in before going? If so, they are going to bite a bit.
I'm assuming there was a bit of engine braking going on, but did you dab your back brake at all?
Having said that, I've done 7 meetings this season and the only time my back brake is used is when it goes through scrutineering.
Is it just about braking as presumably there's one of 3 things that could have happened there.
1. He braked later and harder then you.
2. He braked at the same point but was more in control and your rear end weaving caused you to run slightly wider.
3. You were braking harder than him and he carried more speed in to the corner because he's got more confidence in his grip though the bend.

Spot on me thinks, with all three points. Thing is, yes hes a much better rider than me, but I was just thinking, what are the issues here. Why can one rider brake harder than another and keep the bike stable under the same (or very similar) conditions?1. He braked later and harder then you.

You've answered your own question....Chilli said:
