iPhone vs XDA; what would you do?
Discussion
Just picked up my repaired XDA, to find that they've replaced it. I moaned at O2 and they've agreed that I can swap my tarrif over and they will supply me with an iPhone instead, if I sign up to a new tarrif - no charge for the iPhone, keep the old unit.
Question is, should I use the XDA and get an iPhone later, or get the iPhone now and sell the XDA?
Apart from the inability to create/edit Office documents, is the iPhone as good as/better than the XDA? I need easy access to email, aldo the internet. I want the easiest option for synchronising (had nughtmares with the XDA and yet to get it to work on Vista).
I like the XDA keyboard and mini-laptop feel, but I like the gadget aspect of the iPhone. Also, from what I hear the synching of mails/contact/schedule and music is foolproof and easy-peasy.....
Any suggestions?

Sounds like you;'ve had a rough run with your XDAs of late old bean.
In a nutshell:
- slick, quick, shiny, fluffy = biPhone
- less pretty but more hardcore business / getting jobs done / balancing work and play = XDA/HTC every time
That's why I chose the XDA originally. But it's track record for me is not so good. If I can get this sorted tomorrow (correct charger or an immediate replacement XDA) I'll hang with it for a while. Otherwise, it'l be the iPhone route. In a nutshell:

Think I'll probably get the iPhone contract anyway and not sell the XDA. I can try both and see which I prefer to use.
Haven't had masses of time playing with an XDA, but I did find it a little clunky and certainly not as easy to use as the iPhone.
Put it this way, when my dad had a look at my iPhone he could use it without me telling him how to!!
You're quite welcome to have a play with mine sometime Lee, see how you get on with it.

Thanks Luke. Might take you up on that. Had a demo in the shop, but not the same as seeing a properly set and working one.Put it this way, when my dad had a look at my iPhone he could use it without me telling him how to!!

I know exactly what you mean. The one bit that I thought I wouldn't get on with, was typing messages on the touch screen (which having a demo wouldn't really give an indication of) and I've found it utterly fantastic.
I have no problems in typing and sending several paragraphs on it, it's very clever and most impressive!
Mine is obviously a toy (I don't need my emails on the go!) but it is a very useful one and synching with my Mac (haven't tried it on my PC, but several friends who have them, say synching with a PC is not difficult) is stupidly easy!

Typing is my main concern on the touch screen; the XDA is very easy to use.
I find it no problem whatsoever, the accuracy of your presses on the keyboard is quite unbelievable!I find myself replying to emails on it far more often thatn I thought I would. I thought I'd just use it for reading emails.
Like I said, you're more than welcome to have a play and see if you like it
Do you actually use all of the MS options on there?
I have one as well, but havent used half of the functions I gave as to the reason for buying it!
If you decide to sell the xda, which model is it?? could you give me first dibs? My screen cracked, and rendered it very difficult to use!!

That's the point I guess; I wanted the MS applications, but haven't really used them. Although I KNOW that if I don't have them I will need them!I have one as well, but havent used half of the functions I gave as to the reason for buying it!

Mine is a Stellar; love the keyboard, the functionality, the convenience. And the build quality actually. My old one had been dropped several times with no ill effect. It even ended up in an inch deep rain puddle as I was haring across a carpark in a down pour. I though it was a gonner, but I just dried it out with a hair drier and it worked fine.
But when it eventually did die, it went completely. And added to the problems with synching......
Yes, if I do sell it I'll let you know.
If you're really going to miss the features of the XDA then will o2 let you upgrade to an Orbit 2 or wait until the Diamond/Touch Pro come out? They may not have a physical keyboard [except the Pro] but as an owner of both the touchscreen keyboard on the HTC is 10 times better than the Apple version. I'd also have trouble with the iPhone because id miss having access to all the features the HTC handsets bring with them.
That said, the iPhone is a fantastic phone if the phone bit is all you want from it.

DO you know, without checking, when the Diamond/Touch Pro comes out? They will let me upgrade to an Orbit 2 (they've agreed to swap my contract for an iPhone immediately they have some in stock at the internet store) but I didn't know it was a higher spec than the Stallar. That said, the iPhone is a fantastic phone if the phone bit is all you want from it.

The Orbit 2 is a quite significant evolution of the Stellar, and the Diamond is an evolution of that
