Help with GDAL and Mapinfo

Hi,

I really struggling to get my head around how to use GDAL / mapserver. I have a Mapinfo data set that Is supplied in big tiles (approx 6000 x 6000 pixels) I need to chop them up and reserve them via map server. I have made some progress using gdalinfo and gdal_translate, but I am stuck where to go now.
