Currently thinking about changing the cars we run and I will need a decent sized car to ferry the family around at weekends and on holiday whilst also being fun on country roads for the station trip (although contemplating running a third cheap run around for this job). We have about 30k to spend and considering various BMWs but also the RS6. It has to be an auto so the wife can drive. I am assuming fuel consumption is about 20 if lucky but what about servicing etc? Any guidance would be useful. Thanks.

I average around 17-18mpg although a long weekend to the Lake District and back showed an average of 24mpg on the computer. Not sure how accurate that is though... They're great cars, plenty of power, very secure on the road and a lot of fun. Try one and you'll want one!

As grizz says they are very versatile cars, and huge fun, BUT be under no illusions that they very expensive to maintain.Main dealer prices: Cambelt over 1k, brake pads/disks all round 1k and the same for tyres. Having said that they have more torque than the death star and I wouldn't be without mine, & great value for money at the moment. Go in with your eyes wide open, and for 30k you should be able to get a low mileage 54 plate.

I think he would be better off spending circa £25k and keeping £5k back for bills! Luckily I brought from an Audi dealer and got the warranty - makes my eyes water when I think of the ££££'s in claims made in the last 6 months!

BUT, it is the ultimate uber-barge - it may not have the finesse of an M5 or the smoothness of an AMG; but the noise from a well maintained RS6 is to die for! Soon to be made noisier/quicker by Grizz... And in the wet you can forget your M's and AMG's!

Go do it, but as everyone else has said, there's a lot of information on RS246 so do the homework and go in with your eyes open. And get a Warranty!
