What oil should I put in my 225k BMW 525i 1994.

Some semi-synthetic Titan oil from GSF that dealers use I am told, or some Castrol 10W 40 (i think) high mileage stuff?

Which of the two would you go for?

And if anyone knows, can I fit 540i (E34) discs onto a 525 as they are a tenner cheaper!!

I got 4L of Castrol GTX from Morrisons for £12. Can't go wrong really.

am sure 10w-40 semi synthetic would be the stuff to use i'd have thought. go to opieoils website (google them) and they can search for you. regards the bigger discs, you will have to check the caliper sizes for both cars and see if they are the same. if unsure, make another thread on here, or just a quick call to your local bmw dealer should be enough!

At 225k I would keep using the oil which it had in it previously.

Doesn't seem to have done any harm!

Oils that meet grades - 10w-40 for example - irrespective of whether they are full (true), semi, or mineral oil, are all much of a muchness as far as fluidity is concerned.
If you're using a 5w-30 currently, and have been without issue or increased topping up, then stick with it rather than change to a thicker 10w (cold start performance) 40 (operating temp sheer strength performance).

To that end, I'd suggest Motul rather than Fuchs, but Amsoil if you wanted the absolute dog's knackers of oil.
