I don’t suppose that I’m the only person here who was a little disappointed with the monaro’s sound when they first bought theirs. After all part of the fun of a V8 is that lovely rumble at idle and the roar under acceleration.

However I’ve not had good experience with aftermarket exhausts. The last one I had was on a 200sx years ago. It was great for blatting about country lanes but on the motorway (where I spend most of my days) it was just a droning migraine on wheels.

Anyway when the Wortec’s switchable came along it seemed a great solution apart from the fact that by the time you’d done the job right you had a bill for £4000. So time to do some internet digging.

My first find was QTP and their electric cut out

http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/index.php

The kit is welded into whatever system your running and allows you to open and close the cut out butterfly at will from the drivers seat. What’s more you can have a number of presets set up for what ever mood your in on the day, from mother-in-law in the car quiet, through distant thunder, on to “Oh my God it’s the apocalypse!”
Well the seed was planted (especially since they have a UK dealer http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/QTEC/index.php... So, next stop was Headers. The obvious plase of course was Oz. I settled either on DiFillipo or Pacemaker. The thing that tipped the balance was finding this NZ site
http://www.andy-saunders.co.uk/partsco-hibernate/f...
Craig at partsco was great and sorted me out after a few emails with a set of 1 5/8 four into one headers and four decat pipes (more of which later) for just over £600 inc. shipping. Ten days later the kit was here and ready to go.

If you don’t want the hassle of email, PayPal and the NZ postal service Mark at Rapid also stock them for a small premium.

The headers took my local mechanic about a day to fit (between other jobs) and then it was on with the QTPs and the decat pipes. The decats were cut to size and the cut-outs welded into place. Finally they were hooked up to the power and the control box fitted inside the console flip top box.

The spare decat pipes? Well they’ve had my cats welded into them for MOT time when a quick swap will be performed.
With all this there was only more thing to do and that was a remap. Load of thanks to Mark and Nikki at Rapid who were able to pull an excellent 425bhp out of the car on their dyno.

So all done, I’ve manager to get the car where I wanted for approx £1500, or put another way that’s £2500 for the super charger fund!

Many thanks to

Craig at Partsco
Ian at Jacksons
Ronnie at Gallaghers
and Mark and Nikki at Rapid.

Good man.
Are you sure you dont need a 4" crank instead of one of those girly fisting contraptions?

Nice find on the QTP valve, did you need 1 or 2?

Might have to invest in one of these once I have the car back to keep people happy smile

You'll need two and a controller. The noise is awesome. I might have to use my supercharger money for hearing aids.

If you want to go mental you can save even more and just run a cutout precat.
Basically a y section with a cap on the end. Uncap it for open exhaust fun at the strip or down to the local mall smile

Apart from the noise, would there be any performance advantage of the strip to having cutouts?

I understand the 'less back pressure = a more free flowing system' arguement, but on a non-supercharged car still running a MAF, would you not need a re-map to make any advantage from this??

Cue Richard with a big technical answer that I will have you get you to explainhehe

Drew, As soon as some PMs me about how to put pics on they'll be there.

As far as Fraser's question re cut outs and re map. Yeah your probably right but with a remap look at the difference they contribute to.

The pics are quite small :-( But the headers look nice even so. Would be good to get a decent pic of the graph without so much cropping.

Maybe its just me...but I absolutely hate having to listen to cars with open headers.

Now fair enough...if the car has like 2000bhp, its fair game. But much short of that..then why ???

A V8 can sound fantastic...but open headers are just noise !!!

Yeah cut outs will add power to anyone, just depends how restrictive the exhaust you have now is. Might be bugger all gains, or might be loads.

Top man. That's a great pic. Huge power hike for headers, de-cat and remap. You must be delighted.

Sounds like money well spent to me. Quiet cruising on the motorway, and noisy on the strip biggrin

The link you put up for the UK Quick Time dealer didn't work. Do you mind letting me know where you got the cutouts/ controller, and how much they cost you?

I think I might have a wee project coming my way biggrin

Also need to find a single high flow muffler or resonator with dual inlets/ outlets about 2-3 inches apart. Any ideas?

I saw these, but they look expensive compared to importing them from the US?
