I am thinking of getting myself a LG KU990 Viewty. Cant afford an iPhone, so this seems like the next best thing.

Having researhed the phone in detail online, there seems to be frequent problems with the touch screen backing in and lack of battery power.

Any of you guys have one? Any good? Buy/Avoid? etc

Cheers

my mates battery issues (3/4 of a day to flatten a full charge) were down to the standard pouch it came with. It has a magnetic clasp which somehow when the flap is closed causes the screen backlight to come on and stay on. He cut the magnet out and replaced with velcro fo rmuch improved battery performance. The phone had been back 3 times for repair because of this issue before he noticed what caused it.

Surely reception is down to where you live, I have had no problems and found the battery life fine (I am not a 15 year old who constantly plays crappy dance music too loud for the speaker and sends 200 txts a day) for normal use.
The touch screen is very intuitive and can be easily used with a finger or stylus. Camera is top notch.
However, if you are impressed with someone just because they own an iPhone then it probably is not the phone for you.

Actually certain phones have better reception than others. For ex If i chuck my sim in my old n95 nokia and stand in the centre of my lounge reception is fine. Swap sim to lg and reception is pants.

Battery acceptable 2-3 days in good reception area. If it keeps having to search for signal will flatten it within 8 hours.

Operating system so slow you often think it hasn't accepted last input.

Camera very good on stable objects seems to blur quickly on moving objects.

Scrolling can be difficult at times as it seems to accept it as a 'key press' rather than scroll.

Would I have another yes, could it be improved yes.

I had one of the first three in the country - Press.

Broke within 3 days.

Got couriered a new one.

Broke within 2 weeks.

Didn't write a review.

I used to be a fan of HTC, but have now switched to BlackBerry which has it's own problems with memory (2,500+ contacts & notes).

Overall true, although the OS isn't that slow.

I personally prefer the touch screen on the Viewty over the iPod Touch/iPhone, at least for texting - the Apple keyboard is way too inaccurate/awkward, but the Viewty - no problems. At least for me.

The OS is a bit crappy, mine screws up with text messaging if you have more that about 300 on the phone in your sent or inbox, it stops receiving or sending till I clean it out.
Also, you can't use the qwerty keyboard on the web browser, which is just stupid.

Other than that it is ok, battery life is fine on mine. I take it off charge 4:30am monday morning and it usually lasts me till I get home 7pm on Friday night, probably using it for an hour of conversation and a few tests during that time.

Not a bad phone and the battery life really isn't that bad. I'm using the phone alot for texting and also about 2 hours a day on the phone and it last about 2-3 days normaly. The touch screen is a bit annoying sometimes when texting if your a fast texter as you have no way of knowing what key you just pressed until it comes up on the screen.

I had the phone for about 6-8 months and the touch screen completely gave up which led to a rather annoying call to Orange who kept telling me to save all the numbers off the phone before sending it back. Um, it's a touch phone and the touch screen doesn't work! How am I supposed to access anything! Still, I got the new phone and this one has also lasted about 7 months and the screen is starting to go mad again. When you try to access a menu, it enters one that wasn't even near the one I wanted.

Good phone, but very flawed, but then, it is still reletively new technology, so things can only improve.
