I remember reading this on the bus on the way home from school. Guy Kewney reviewed the Sirius 1 and I thought he had the coolest job in the world getting to play with all the latest computers.

It was a cool job, I edited the magazine in the early 1990s but now it is going to close.

Shame.

Agreed - I am a subscriber and it has something of value in it each month.

The writing has been on the wall for a while though - it has been getting very thin recently...

Blimey. I'm also an ex subscriber... probably going back 8 years since I subscribed though.... looking above that seems to be the trend.

The thing is the net has hit pretty much all mag sales, and the computer literate must hit pc mag sales as hard if not harder than other mags.

Sad day though

I think the answer to both questions is No.

In my experience they will offer you the choice of a refund or to move your subscription to one of their other magazines.

I remember reading the first issues when I was a kid. In the 90s, some issues were nearly an inch thick. There just isn't anything much they can offer now that's not covered in multiple places online.

The first issues were in 1978. I think it was a mistake going from the box cover - the white cover with the photo in a box. They did that just after I started and I was distraught at what they were doing.

I agree. The early issues still look very modern. The chimp issue sticks in my mind. The 90s issues look rpetty awful.

It's the end of an era.

I remember reading PCW in the mid to late 80s. It could be up to an inch thick in those days!

the Chimp came about because the editor reviewed the ZX81 and then went on holiday. The staff in the office went for a picture of a chimp and the line "Editor reviews the ZX81".

Aw that is sad news frown

I have fond memories of the PCW exhibitions, seeing real industry personalities in the flesh, and lugging a huge box of printer fanfold + disk storage + cheapo disks back to the car via a very crowded tube. I especially remember the launch of Trapdoor for the Spectrum, and demos of the new Acorn Archimedes.
