Will be in London for a couple of days & am looking to get some filters, ext tubes and a Macro lens...

Is there a must stop shop for Photographers in or around the centre? will be based Portman Square near Selfridges.

Cheers

Another option, New Oxford Street, the continuation of Oxford Street east of Tottenham Court Road has a big Jessops on and also Jacob's photo shop across the road which is far superior in every respect. It had a really good second hand section at the back right beyond the bags (well that's where it was when I was last there).

Mr Carter has highlighted Grays of Westminster. If you're a Nikon man, there is no finer store. There is also a super Leica place somehwere over near the British Museum.

Another good store is up the top of Tottenham Court Road between Googe Street station and Warren Street station on the left hand side of the road walking with the traffic.

Edited to add: London canera Exchange on the Strand just past Simpsons heading towards Waterloo Bridge can be good for a quick browse and the occasional deal. Some staff snotty, some very good.

Another recommendation for Grays, photographic heaven, very friendly staff.

The shop on TC road is Kingsley photographic, never been in it just seen it passing on a bus.

Also, The Photographers Gallery is worth alook they've recently moved, so you'd have to gOogle them to find out if it's near you. They had a really good shop at their old place, books, etc.

Just in case this is helpfull to anyone else.....

needing canon equipment I skipped Grays & went to Jessops as I had a pre-ordered lens waiting there for my birthday pressent smile they could not have been more rude so decided to go to the London Camera exchange for the extra bits, very very helpful (very tall guy) so bought the Sigma 10-20 and a Polariser filter, sadly they did not have an extension tube for the Macro so went onto Calumet who were reluctantly helpful but nevertheless helpful.

Thanks for the pointers!

Nice one PV. There are loads of London Camera Exchange shops all over the place, I've found both ones in Bristol to be very good.

Out of interest, what did you pay for the 10-20? Lowest on camera price buster is £375 at the moment, though I've a feeling the best guys aren't on that site...

has some old stock at old price (only for canon) £365 which seems good considering the 375 you mention, also 375 at duty free on the way back smile

yet to get some decent shots with it tho frown cant seem to get a sharp landscape with it, maybe because of the polarizer, duno..... used it for my trip to Aushwitz & not happy with many of the shots, very wide but detail a bit / sharpness lacking.

The sigma 10-20 is known for being a bit hit and miss. Take the filter off and try and get something sharp. If it won't I'd send it back.

Very basic wide angle article, only pasting it as it was in an eshot I read 5 minutes ago! http://digital-photography-school.com/6-winning-wa...
