Planning a BBQ for my best friends and someone I'm trying to impress. Talked to her about it and we've agreed that a Spanish theme is on the cards. This puts me in a dilemma. Apart from the drinks (Sangria and San Miguel) I've got no idea. I'm thinking to marinade sausages, burgers etc but have no idea about what to marinade them in (we do Chinese, Indian, and Thai style marinades at work, but no Spanish), so any ideas? The only Spanish sauce I know is mojo, a recipe I picked up in Tenerife (1 tsp paprika, some chunks of red pepper, few bits of chopped garlic, 1 tsp cumin powder and a pinch of salt) which is usually served with what are basically small jacket potatoes (new potato sized, with wrinkled skins covered in salt). I'm looking around but need some advice. What should I do?

Slices of spanish omlette instead of potato salad, also bowls of olives would help.

A mate brings those back when he works in Spain - they are lovely on the BBQ.

Agree with Tortilla as a side dish (proper simple tortilla, potatos and egg sometimes with onion if required) You can stick the sliced potatos in the microwave to cheat softening them.
Zorza(Cubes of pork, marinaded for a day in white wine, garlic and paprika)+
Ensaladilla-a mix of boiled potatos, tuna peas, olives(leave them whole as some people dont like them), boiled egg, all mixed in mayonnaise.

get some smoked paprika (I can buy it at my local tesco metro) use this in marinades/rubs for meat with cumin and salt - especially good for pork chops or kebabs (eating pork is enforceable by law in Spain wink) Grilled fish, bacalao, spicy kidneys, prawns, grilled baby squids..... I'm hungry now....

Agree with the grilled sardines, went to a sardine festival in Spain a week and a half ago - got into double figures on sardines *drool*

Also, look up Tinto de Verano instead of Sangria, I prefer it and so do the locals........

Did a Spanish spread for friends at the weekend, meatballs in tom sauce, tortilla, patatas bravas (could be good as a BBQ side dish), and chorizo amongst other items.
