Hi All,

I am involved in trying to raise funds and supplies for a wonderfull charity that is building a hospital in Haiti. Already they have supplied an ambulance, built a new ward and are now building a maternity unit. This is essential and is both badly needed n the area and laughably cheap to build and run compared to anywhere in the developed world. The charity needs some PC's to ship over, preferably with flat screens to save on shipping costs but really anything would be appreciated.

I would like to try and get hold of as many as I can, ideally 25 or more, but even one would be gratefully accepted. Old PC's or laptops would be so much help so if anyone could assist with even just one it would make a huge impact and I would be most grateful. Obviously the newer the batter but anything would be fantastic.

Please feel free to check out the charity - www.haitihospitalapeal.org

Anyone?!

Thanks in advance.

People tend to get rid of computers when they get old and unreliable (- and then get charged quite a lot for disposing of them.) Are you rebuilding them when you get them or can you deal with these issues? How old is acceptable?

I have an old one no longer used in my loft. Am about to move so feel free to collect. No screen I'm afraid though.

I've got 9 fairly old and abused office PC's, requiring varying states of repair and no monitors. Is this the sort of thing you're after?

I am just handing them over mate, I don't think we want to do too much work on them, although if it is just a matter of tidying up the drives etc I am more than happy to do that.

And as to how old, I will pass on any offers but Ideally Pentium and newer I would imagine.

I can rebuild machines but every penny spent on new bits is money we can spend on other things.

Whereabouts are you and do you have a rough idea of the spec? Thank you for you offer.

Could very well be! I'll track down some more monitors somewhere. Any idea of age and spec? I don't really want to have to do much in the way of repair. Ideally I just want to be able to clean up the drives and ship them out.

Thank you for you response and very kind offer. Please let me know a little more.

At a rough guess, I have now been offered in the region of 30 units. While I know that these machines are not being used and its a win win situtation, I am deeply appreciative of peoples willingness to take the time to respond and make so many generous offers. Obviously the more the merrier but my geniunie thanks to all who have responded so far and I look forward to meeting at least some of you when I come to collect!

These machines will actually save lives by helping the hospital in what is the poorest county in the Western world.

Not necessarily. Our company recently upgraded all of its PC's and I couldn't find anywhere (even on the net) that put any value on them, so we scrapped them in the end. (all fairly modern kit, just a couple of years old, and all working fine).

www.freecycle.org to give away stuff, companies have been known to go on the local group with 50+ chairs, they went to a scout group, so instead of paying to dump them, let someone else find a use for them smile
