A lot of sites I visit now are saying that they are phasing out internat explorer and that I need to update to Firefox, Google chrome etc. What exactly will this do and do they have the same sort of tools/ internet options available. I use outlook express for my email so will this be affected should I get rid of internet explorer?

I doubt any site would phase out compatibility with IE. about 70% of people browsing use IE, this is more for corporate use, and less for home/personal use. However it is still used by the majority.

Are you sure you're not seeing the warnings/recommendations to upgrade from IE6 to IE7/8 OR Firefox 3 OR Chrome?

Ah, possibly yes, didn't think about that one. Its Windows xp so how can I find out if it is IE6? Forgive the ignorance and thanks in advance!

From within Internet Explorer click on 'Help' at the top and then 'About.' Here it will tell you the version you have. If you want to update (and you should) select 'Tools' then 'Windows Update' and wait a while whilst your are offered what will undoubtedly be lots of updates.
