iPAQ h1900 series HP pocket pc problem

hi guys,
got given an iPAQ

now its about 3 years old and never been used (long story) from my missus, so its not hot

anyway, its a canadian version, but the charger says will work off 240 with an adaptor for 2 to 3 pin.

ok, out of the adaptor is 5volts so thats ok, it then connects to what looks like a ipaq connector to charge.

now, no lights come on, maunals say needs 4 hours to charge (some sites say 16 hours) but should I not even get some indication on the LED, apparently when fully charged, shows Amber?

is there a fault or is the 3 year batter knacked, or should I jsut wait ??
