D3s in a few days. Rumoured specs are 12 mp, ISO 102,400 and 720p HD video (not full 1080.)

I guess canon didn't want to be outdone. The 1D MK4 is due on the 20th. Rumoured specs are a 1.3 crop sensor with extremely high iso (ISO 102,400) and around 14fps.

I can't wait for the 1d MK4, 1d MK3 prices have already started to drop and that's all the camera I'll need for a while wink

Well it's not good enough. I want ISO 204,800 and 40 fps. No idea why, but I want them.

I'm sure 40fps is faster than most of the video recording these cameras can do.

40fps at iso 204,800 would look like a pretty snowstorm smile

Walls? With a 35mm f0.9 you'll be able to see through time itselfhehe

Seriously, what's the f**ing point of ISO102,400, are we all shooting black cats in a coal bunker now or perhaps a nice candlelit portrait of a mole in a mine?

Also a 14fps motor drive, that's a real scattergun approach. Whatever happened to "the decisive moment". I know the obvious applications to wildlife and sport but think of the simply stunning images taken with either no motor drive or a low speed one as the photographer chose when to trip the shutter.

No doubt this will mean a massive battery pack as well to drive the beast, so it'll be a heavy monster as well.

Blimey, you posted Ian!

You'll have to wait until the 20th (or for the next big leak) for official specs. I'll keep this thread updated with postings from Canon Rumours and other places on the web.

It goes all the way to 400. Epic.

Enjoyed the rant and it was valid. Surely just shooting everything that moves with a pro HD video camera, then picking out the frames you want would be far easier. This is technology just for its own sake, IMO. No wonder Photoshop et al are so poular; covers up the lack of ability.................for some at least.

Genuinely zero interest in the D3s and what it offers compared to a D3.

Thank goodness really, considering the price differential !

D3 still stands up as being a stunning camera even without these tweaks and it's nice to find myself sitting here not even being vaguely tempted to upgrade. See also the D3X.

I feel the same. The D3 is a wonderful but heavy beast. The way it handles low light is just superb. However it is a very heavy old beast for slugging around all day. When heading off for the weekend unless I'm specifically going to take pictures I often just throw the little Lumix in a pocket and leave the D3 at home.

Interestingly I read a review of the D3x by Andy Rouse and in the end he concluded that for him the current D3 is the better tool for his job as despite the ability the crop from the higher number of pixels he was losing out on the smoothness of the D3 so it was not a worthwhile upgrade.

I really wish Nikon would do a D3 equivalent of my old FM2T. I just need that sensor wrapped in a lightweight but very very sturdy body. Same metering, same AF, single frame advance and smaller screen and so small battery that lasts a decent length of time i.e. at least all day in the cold. That would do me a treat but I doubt they will ever make such a thing as it's too few "features" to sell. The D700 seems to tick a lot of the boxes. I've a day off so may go and investigate

I did contemplate selling the D3 and down-grading to a D700 in order to free up some pennies for a 24-70, but a) I don't think I'd get enough cash differential and b) I'm pretty sure I'd miss the feel of the D3 - it's a big bugger but I does fit my paws quite nicely.

Well that confused matters no end !

In terms of replacement pocketable point and shoot I tried the Leica D-lux 4 and it's Lumix brother and found the controls too fiddly, especially the little toggle button thingy. I also tried the sightly bigger Nikon P6000 which was OK but didn't really tempt me too much. The one I got on most with is the Canon G11, nice clear controls but not really that pocketable. Maybe time to get bigger pockets

The D700 I did not feel was enough of a weight saving to make it worth adding to the stable as a D3 stand-in, but the one that really really caught my eye and imagination was a second hand Hasselblad 903SW. Lovely lens and field of view but mega pricey as they are quite rare now. More research required before lashing out for this old beauty.

It would seem Canon asked Vincent Laforet to remove his 1'Div' hehe video. Probably because there's some non-Canon glass used? Anyway, plenty have seen and downloaded... it's here on the tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48Ig59zgQkM (best in HD, full screen)

I don't use a DSLR for video myself (yet?), but it's a good taste of the low light abilities.

Another video here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CZoM9HFz1E ... very 'Baraka' at times ...
