OK, my copies of Windows 7 were delivered into my hot little mits yesterday. One installation to my Sony Vaio laptop went smoothly (despite my having some dubiety about deleting drivers prior to install) the other however is less than perfect.. On my Acer Aspire 5920g I had to do a fresh install and Windows 7 hasn't detected the videocard so it's showing as a generic one.... unfortunately since it's not being detected it's impossible, as far as I'm aware, to install the appropriate drivers etc. The really annoying thing is that the Acer was quite happily running a Windows 7 RC...

Any suggestions?

I have used the vista driver on some laptops (not acer). Works fine. Sometimes you install the vista driver and the next update detects a new W7 driver available. There's some for vista here you could try:

Google suggests the laptop has an nVidia 8600M graphics card?

If so http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win... should be what you need for 32 bit, or http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_winvista_64bit_1... for 64 bit.

Firstly, good choice on your laptops...

I'm currently on my Vaio Laptop (Win 7 of course) so can't really help. If you're still stuck this evening I'll have a look on my Aspire 5920G and see what driver I'm using (Win 7 Ultimate). I didn't have any problems changing from the RC but I installed Ultimate over the top rather than doing it afresh.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I have the drivers etc. but don't know how to install them i.e. it won't let me because they're not for that card.....hmmmm, maybe it just needs some more perseverence and swearing rage

Have you tried a windows update?

I did this and it sorted all my drivers out.

Preaching to the converted ??.I'm running 7 RC and find that as with the earlier version it's sometimes possible to go down the Device Manager (in control panel) and update driver ,pointing the search to the CD ( most times works ) or the file /folder .
Now with the ompending death of RC ,anyone suggest one of the other versions ( for home) that is as good as RC -got XP PRO on my homebrew ,but compared to 7RC, it's horrible .
