I just baked my first loaf.

It's risen but is wet and a bit sponge-esque.... (new word).

Any ideas what was wrong? More flour or yeast?

You didn't let it rise for long enough.

Sounds like too much water or too little cooking time, though it's difficult to say with knowing your recipe.

You possibly didn't bake it for long enough. Dough might have been a bit wet too.

How much flour & water did you use?

sounds like to much liquid. If your using a bread maker, you can add more flour during the first kneading stage. Add a little bit at a time until it become quite a firm not sticky ball.
