Hi there,

I am new (ish) to this forum and I am not sure if I am posting in the right section of the website.

However, I can use any advice regarding the procedure to change my signature because I hate it and it's tooooo long. I find signing 20-30 cheques in one go it does my heading.
Has anyone done this before?

Thanks in advance for all the advice you guys.

I guess you write to the bank with examples of old and new versions of your signature.

Then wait for confirmation before using the new signature, so that when they bounce your cheques you can show them their own letter and get the charges refunded. Then again, I've heard that banks don't check signatures much anyway.

Just go to the bank and get a form signed, I did it once and from then on use the new signature. Credit cards are easy now it is chip and pin. Just change when you get your new card.

I have 2 different signatures - a full name one for cheques/legal type stuff and an initial type one for most other things.

I've done this, & for similar reasons.

My signature for everything is now just an initial.

When I went into the bank the "signature on file" was from when I was about 10!
They gave me a form to fill in which I did there and then

However I didn't tick a box stating why I was changing, Marriage, Divorce, Changed Name etc, as they didn't have a box for "can't be arsed signing my whole name" or indeed "other". This meant several weeks later it was posted out to me to "Complete" before they could process the change, despite me having used the new initial on multiple cheques including an out of the norm car purchase.

Made me wonder what the point of going in was.

Why on earth are you doing this? Maybe internet banking would be the way forward?

It doesn't matter if they don't use internet banking, they only need to have a bank account. (It's a much cheaper way of paying suppliers, Barclays are currently £0.79 per cheque + the cost of postage £0.39, it all adds up smile)

Oops used wrong log-in last time.
