What is the best way of getting website traffic to http://www.alexandertechniquebristol.com
It is my Mums Alexander Technique website, built in flash so very basic but does what she needs?
Oh and if anyone in Bristol needs help with their back or posture, do let me know.

Where to start...
  • Dont use frames
  • Dont use flash
  • Build with SEO from the start
  • Make content relevant
  • Get links in to the site
Start again basically. Alternatively...
  • Pay for adwords

Ah, ok.
Do Google Adwords really work? Failing that I might see if I can find a web designer on here who can do a proper job.

So flash is fine after all then.
So how did you manage to get such a high ranking ?

It's because his net name is the same as his search optimised term!

That's an important factor, but you could still be number one for those terms if you had an unrelated name, and more inbound links.

No flash is far from perfect any web designer its not the way to go but your seo is all aboouut content and keywords, i'd have what your mum does in the URL id possible and use the basic text in moonfruit at the top of your site, back links are also important

It took me ages to figure it out but due to peserverence and i have to add luck its right up there and i've not paid a penny.

Mine is just a community website so not important to me but maybe if your mum is serious about this business maybe get a half decent designer to put you one together. it shouldn't cost more than 3#500 quid or so.

or just have a go yourself.

You only pay Google when people click on one of your links - so at a basic level, yes, they do work, and many many many of my clients use them successfully. However, at a higher level, Adwords can be tricky as you want as many of those clickers to be actively interested people, which is where choosing the correct keywords comes into it.

tbh, with any website, good clean clear content is where you need to be, and Flash is not a great help for that, regardless what Adobe might say (and yes, I do know what I'm talking about here, I'm an Adobe Community Expert).

If you have clean clear design and markup, and your content is well written, and well structured (as well as interesting to others), people will search for you, and people will link to you - Unfortunately a single flash page, that's got non-specific content won't compete the millions of other pages out there talking about the same subject.

This is a very valid point.

Chief's site is top in google for "Electronic Component Procurement" but is know here for "Electronic Component", "Electronic Component Distribution" and other such terms.

Decide what your key words are and then use the tools Google provides to check your content.

http://www.google.com/sktool/
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExter...

and others...

Links inbound is more important though and you will only get this with good quality content.

I forgot about that one - to be honest my ECP website needs working on the seo isn't that good. i want the keyword 'Electronioc components' to get it on the first page but i have struggled simply because they're are thousands of companies out there with silly budgets that would easily wipe the floor with me and my poxy flash based website.

I have a community one called Royton Online, you type in 'Royton' and i'm number one or two depending on how Google feels that day, i think this is purely down to content and the fact there isn't gonna be zillions of sites promoting my town.

You can get it up there but i completely agree that flash is not the way forward, and i understand if i was selling ink cartridges for instance i'd have a hell of a job getting mine a high rating simply because there are thousands of companies doing it with again bigger budgets with dedicated web designers.
